E3 2023 canceled. now what?

E3 2023 has been canceled and the future of the historic gaming news world event is unknown. Many are saying E3 is dead. Let's take a look back with some personal memories and some speculation towards the future.

Favorite E3? Might be recency bias but I remember 2015 bringing some heat.

If E3 is well and truly dead, I’m really sad about it. I only really got to experience the outside of the event, and never got to go inside. Despite that, the little I did get to experience was awesome. The one single evening I spent in the area, I remember very fondly, thanks Jake for welcoming me that night.

It is really strange to think that it's gone (whether or not it returns)... so many great memories linked to watching/experiencing E3 over the years.

Watching press conferences online and seeing all the hype from the crowd was like being there. I’m sure actually being in the room must have been quite the experience though! RIP E3.

Also, shoutout to Skylenox, a guy who had a gaming channel on youtube and who did E3 conference reactions as well as other incredibly well made essays about games, if anyone knew him.

But you are here with a ground level perspective. You literally have an opportunity that people will talk about for the next decade, minimum. Your ground level. Document, write, do what you do. But this is your time to have a voice, so make sure it's one that's remembered

I still can't get over the ludicrous cost they were charging for a virtual spot during covid. To me, that signaled that there's something off.

I remember watching E3 every year during summer break when I was still in school. Good memories, rip E3 you will be missed

I remember my 1st time hearing about E3 as a young lad and thought it was the coolest thing ever. A convention about video games sounded beyond amazing. I would be so excited to see it each year on G4. I have never been to E3 but hopefully that changes soon

Too bad about E3. I recently attended a ReedPop event, the Emerald City ComicCon, and it was brilliantly organized and executed. I hope something rises from the E3 ashes. The all in one festival aspect of E3 seemed cool and unique, and I think ReedPop would handle it well.

I loved e3. I was always stuck in remote parts of Australia and couldn't go to big conventions so watching E3 allowed me to see the community and studios in a way that I couldn't get in my little country town

Being a kid who grew watching E3, every year… this is sad. So many memories of me and my old buddy spending the whole week at my house watching it from sun up to sun down. We played games before and after the press conferences and demos for 4 days straight. So much nostalgia. Sad to see it slowly coming to an end. From a financial standpoint I understand it. But it’s still sad

I've been to E3 once in my life 2017, to be exact. I'm glad I did it was a fun experience as someone who's been playing games all their lives. R.i.p E3 good times.

ive never been to e3 but i definitely looked forward to the summertime for all the reveals and will miss it all being in one showing it was like a huge event back then and we would go to school talking about it with our friends

as someone who never got to go to e3, I prefer SGF. I actually get to play some of the games! I feel like the "There's a demo out right now!" thing is relatively new. it was super rare back when I watched e3.

I'll never forget E3 2016, when Sony announced God of War, Spider-Man and Kojima came in and announced Death Stranding, that was a dream come true

I moved to Cali the year before COVID. A friend of mine asked me what I wanted to do now that I was living in California proper. . . I gave him a list of five things, and on that list was E3. I grew up watching G4 and tech TV back when they were in their prime, the E3 coverage was always the highlight of the year and I was really excited once they opened it up to the public. I'd hate to see it be one of those things that never truly recovered from the pandemic. If it truly ends this ingloriously, it would break my heart.

Spot on Jake! Thanks for sharing your experience! I’ve always wanted to go to an E3, it’s been my life long dream, as silly as that sounds, so yah a little bit of a bummer that it’s dying out, but anyways looking forward to summer games fest.
