ALEX KATZ: BLACK AND WHITE
An Evening with Alex Katz, December 3, 2016
AMERICAN UNIVERSITY MUSEUM AT THE KATZEN ARTS CENTER, WASHINGTON, DC

Alex Katz: Black and White explores the artist’s lifelong interest in stripping color out of his prints, and his attempt to replace sensual pleasure with intellectual design. Design versus color has been as artistic debate that goes back to the Renaissance. Similar to the art of the Renaissance Florence, Katz’s prints are about design, and are based on drawing, ideas, and the structure of things.

Question: "Why aren't there men in your work?" Answer: "Women sell better than men" ??? that's difficult to hear...how is it the audience enjoyed hearing the artist say that?
