2023 Range Rover Sport Review | Third-gen luxury SUV takes ride, handling and design to a new level

The original Range Rover may have invented the luxury SUV market segment in 1970, but its more attainable sibling made the genre far more popular when the first Range Rover Sport was launched in 2005.

Now, there’s an all-new model for the first time in a decade, and the third-generation 2023 Range Rover Sport makes quite a statement in design, technology and dynamics – especially in D350 First Edition guise as tested here by Sam Charlwood.

My 2017 engine went in my Range Rover Diesel just before warranty was up. Luckily for me I was covered. However while it was known potential problem it doesn’t happen to all of them and Range Rover have a Goodwill policy (so they should) and appointed a personal customer rep that took care of everything for us while the new engine was being put in. I got complimentary Range Rover hire car, they organised delivery of the loan car to my work, they coordinated the repairs, warranty claim, and called me weekly with an update. Yes it was disappointing, yes it was inconvenient, no it really shouldn’t be happening on an expensive car only 5yrs old, however, it did! Land Rover took care of the problem and I only skipped a beat for two days of real inconvenience. Of course like anything most people look to improve on the bad and fingers crossed they have because I have just traded my car for the new D350 Sport. I’m happy with everything else that Range Rover offers and the new car warranty has my back for a while. This review on the sport is accurate based on my test drive experience.

Sales 12 months to 2023 + 25% across the JLR range. Backlog of 215, 000 units on the order books. Apparently not dead yet.

Isn’t air suspension standard on every sport now without the 4cly base model? Why you saying “when optioned”? That would redicilous if it’s not.

Just fyi: the sport mode pumps a fake v8 sound, mixed with a "filtered" sound from the actual exhaust, into the cabin. However that works.. but in the end i think tgat the majority of sound you hear is artificial.

Does "nuances" in the final summary mean the door handles fell off ?

If I really could not make the budget stretch to buy a real Range Rover, I would rather opt for the new Defender...

From the horror stories I've seen and read about over the years and the absolute contempt in which the way the dealers treat you for the privilege of them letting you buy one even if I was a multi millionaire many times over I still wouldn't buy one. John Cadogan's videos on JLR are enlightening..

Really good but the entry level SE, SE Dynamic diesels cost too much in Australia. JLR right now is advertising the Range Rover Sport model really heavily on Foxtel and Sydney free to air TV, something that they don't usually do in Australia . Could be because their dealers are complaining to JLR head office in Europe that they are struggling to sell or are just not selling. There's over 200 hundred on car sales right now . JLR have set prices too high in Australia and they though we wouldn't notice. They cost too much in Australia . USA and UK customers can afford it because it's affordable in these places but Aussies got screwed over again with the worst pricing in the world by JLR bean counters in Europe .No way would you pay what they are asking for these diesels with nothing on them with RRSport model. It's all stupidly priced now in 2024 for Australian market . Best car right now for great value is the new 2024 refresh BMW X5 30D and is very competitively priced.Comes with pano roof, heads up display, 305's on rear, 275 fronts, split auto tail gate and is way much better value much cheaper driving away prices and its faster than the RR sport diesel .

I went to a Land Rover store today and not one person came up to us to greet us and check if we were ok, went to Audi and within 5 minutes of looking around outside someone came to us and asked if we wanted to sit inside a car etc so that’s helped me pick what car I wanna be buying

The engine light company….even if you can afford one… don’t JLR wont help you and sales are down a massive 30% year on year (that’s what happens when you treat customers like shit) RIP JLR

Disappointed with Land Rover put a deposit on a new range rover sport first edition p530 went to the dealer yesterday to check out one that they had on display to my amazement when the sales person locked the vehicle I happened to press the fuel Lid flap it opened when I mentioned that to him he said that’s how it is I find that very disappointing in a vehicle of such a price it’s an invitation to vandals to introduce foreign materials to the fuel tank to me it’s a deal breaker as I have cancelled my order get it right Land Rover no short cuts please
