New 2023 Range Rover Sport review | luxury SUV driven | Autocar

This is the new 2023 Range Rover Sport, Land Rover's latest luxurious SUV.

It's based on the same architecture that underpins the latest full-fat Range Rover, which means it's a largely aluminium 4x4 that's very much full-size for Europe - not so huge by US standards.

The range is incredibly broad, from diesels through to a V8, but here Matt Prior is testing the plug-in hybrid, badged P510e.

That combines a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor with its oomph provided by a 31.8kWh battery. The car has 503bhp, which is good enough for a 5.4sec 0-62mph time and a 150mph top speed. It also has a 70 mile electric-only range if you start fully charged.

In the UK, the Range Rover Sport range starts from around £80,000 and this particular model from £112,040.

This bloke knows his stuff but I find myself switching off from what he is saying. I think it’s his delivery, no enthusiasm and the speeding up and slowing down only puts the listener to sleep. Like a old clockwork Noel Edmunds

This thing looks absolutely stellar! Exterior-wise Range Rovers have always been amazing, but the interior is my favorite part. No tacked-on infotainment screen and there are actual buttons for climate control and terrain response.

Matt. Love your reviews but don't get the statement, "after the 70 is depleted, then you are just..on the engine charging the battery"?
This confuses most people who don't understand hybrid technology. While the battery "recuperates" energy and adds some battery only range, this is very very minimal, and thete is no mode for driving around and "charging", which would be rediculous for mileage as you know. Therefore this kind of statement further confuses the unaware. Can't wait for the full review. This model is amazing.

Availability/supply issues aside, unless you need the long wheelbase and/or 7 seats, what other compelling reason is there not to opt for this instead of the full fat version? They seem quite similar & this is cheaper.

Personally, I would have preferred a smaller Range Rover with the same level of comfort/luxury, rather than a sportier Range Rover with the same size. The new Range Rover is amazing, but too big for a lot of places like Europe, so I think there would be strong demand for a smaller and more practical version.
