AWD Ford Transit BEAUTIFUL 8020 ALUMINUM CABINETS with LIGHTS, WITHOUT DRILLING The Van! - Part 17

Hey Everyone, in this video we install beautiful upper cabinets in the AWD Ford Transit. The materials used for the framing will be 10 series aluminum extrusion and brackets. With this install, precision is critical to making the cabinets look clean and it starts with understanding where the roof curves down and identify how far forward you want to install the cabinets. The front of the cargo area is slightly narrower than the rear and the width of your cabinet doors when open may block your ceiling lights so keep that in mind with your layout. Have fun and don’t forget to enjoy your van!

The handles on those cabinets are going to take somebody's eye out! I know I sound like your grandpa, but they're right at eye level & have a nice sharp corner...

I love metal cabinets never thought about them in a van but now I'm inspired.

Great to see you using and pointing out the thermal barrier between the extrusion and the van body. Aluminum framing without it would transfer heat and cold VERY quickly to the van interior.

Slowly but surely you are getting there.

Glad to see you your vid again. Looks great! Hope you keep track of all the expenses. At the end we would like to know the ballpark of how much this beast cost. Keep up the good work!

Thank you Rich. I hope you do not mind, but I am copying so many of your methods. I love your logic.

Love how you’re weight cautious. Some of these people add so much weight to their roof or up high. Has to throw off the center of gravity

Nice job, I had bought 10 series 8020 for my ceiling in my shuttle bus conversion and had used planks on the ceiling and didn't like how it butted up and partially hid the 10 series. I'm picking up some 1020 from my local supply house today. Also ordered some of the cabinet hardware and LED lighting as linked in your video. Thanks!

Looks like you are doing what I plan as well. 80/20 but I hope you are doing a Murphy Bed. That is the only 80/20 config I haven't seen. The reason is that I still want to be able to haul my motorcycle. I can't wait to see your electrical with the Bluetti AC unit

Hello Rich, love your videos and specially love the music in this video. Can you please tell me the name of the song ? Appreciate it

First....great job. Did you consider foregoing the bottom 80/20 rail against the back wall and just do the front two rails, the connecting vertical short pieces and short horizontal pieces to the wall. This was humble road solution

Quick update: I've upgraded the gas struts to 80N so now the door opens itself with more force when I detach it from the magnet catch and still closes on its own. No squeaking or rattling with normal driving, but cabinet fronts rattle over potholes and railroad tracks. I assume this is typical with all cabinets but maybe a dedicated mechanical catch would help here. Also when you are 100% complete, be sure to use thread locker on each bolt to prevent the bolts from backing out over time.

Great job! I'm trying to figure how to secure cabinet fronts to the hinge. i see that the ikea fronts are predrilled did you just use a larger screw?

Hey Rich, what's going on with your step on the side door? I saw you had some flooring hanging out over the step from your flooring video. What did you do with that space? I'm about to do flooring. I got the same van!
