John Krasinski did such an amazing job with this film, both acting and directing.

People who are saying he could have saved himself entirely miss the point of the scene. This entire movies is about family, and he had nothing but remorse and guilt over the loss of his previous son, and he promised he would do ANYTHING to protect his family.

And he did just that...

It’s so emotional, and so inspiring yet tear jerking, it’s an absolute masterpiece of a scene. Leave it up to a lot of people to try their hardest to ruin an amazing scene.

What it makes it sadder is that the girl instantly realises why daddy tells her he loves her

I think this scene will stick with me forever out of everything in this movie and many other horror movies this has to be the saddest death I've ever seen and I'd like to say that this man right there is a true loving Dad and I can only hope that I live up to that kind of love for my own children.

Also found out the "I have always loved you" extra the father signs before he screams, was written in last minute because they felt it brought closure to the father-daughter-difficult-relationship, that he had listened to his son telling him how his daughter feels like she's lost his love, so it brought that whole arc in full circle and he was laid to rest knowing he told his daughter he loved her and always has, comforting her that she never lost her father's love despite the guilt in potentially aiding her youngest siblings accidental killing.

2:21 The son's scream is like a knife to the heart. And you just know, from Lee's perspective, assuming he heard that scream, hearing his little boy scream out in terror like that, accidentally putting himself in immediate danger, had to have been such a horrifying moment. I know that, one day if I ever end up becoming a dad, hearing that from one of my kids would be one of the absolute scariest things for me.

This man deserves to get an Oscar one day, ever since I saw him in 13 hours I was blown away by his performance. He can do it all: be funny, be dramatic, action star, and now brilliant writer/director. I expect big things in the future for you Mr. Krasinski and I can’t wait to see what you put our next!
