One of the commonly used tools of Windows 10 is the file explorer application. This allows for the easy navigation of the file structure of your computer. Although this is quite easy to use as all you have to do is to click on it in order for it to run there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the file explorer randomly opens on Windows 10 issue.

File explorer, if you don’t already know, is the window that lets you access your drives and various other files on Windows platform. Recently, a lot of users are complaining about File Explorer randomly opening up on their Windows. For some, it opens up randomly on its own whereas others have noticed a pattern where the File Explorer will open only at startup or while closing a full-screen game etc. Although this doesn’t prevent users from performing a task on Windows but it certainly is quite annoying to see a popup after every few minutes.

When I went full screen and exited, explorer kept opening. With this, the problem fixed. Thank you so much.

None of the mentioned attempts proved successful for me, so I resorted to reinstalling the operating system using a bootable flash drive. The process involved reinstalling directly from the desktop, opting to retain all files and applications. Surprisingly, reinstalling Windows 10 in this manner proved to be a straightforward solution to this File Explorer issue just popping up at startup. Thanks.

Love that 100% cpu usage you have there basically doing nothing. I get a File Explorer window on my desktop when booting up, for perhaps the last three days.

ending explorer with Task Manager and re opening with admin perms kinda fixed the issue so i presume the control panel part is more or less of a definite solution to the issue

Hey guys if this does not work try to identify when the problem started, mine did when connecting to onedrive. making the file explorer trying to fetch files that I deleted a long time ago. disabling the onedrive did it for me (not from setting but from autoruns)

yo i use a laptop but i prefer to use external keyboards and every time i press CTRL it opens the file explorer can you help please

Mine only does it when charging/power cable is connected. Non of your solutions work.
