One of the reasons why it killed so many is because of the eye of the storm. People who were in the evacuation center at that time thought the typhoon had passed and immediately got back to their homes, only to get hit by an ever stronger wind than before.

When Haiyan hit our town, the windgust pinned us for 4-6hrs, and you already accept death and just wait when will it happen...when the typhoon pass at 10PM there's a mass exodus in our village, by morning when I went out, the typhoon down 99% of the structures around our town...from wiped out farms, uprooted trees, collapsed houses, to down power lines...it was heartbreaking, you just have to take a deep breath and do what you can with faith in your heart...we have to keep standing...we must...I hope the world will learn...earth already change...and we must keep up with its changes...to all of us filipinos who made it out from haiyan...keep adapting...

I was born there in visayas, me and my parents survived, for ny father, he was going back to cebu, he told me its was scary and hard, and when he came to the airport, he almost got stabbed and then after that he came to the house, it was damaged, but my mither, me and my other grandma survived, my mither was cleaning, but its a painful memory.
