I’ll reconsider buying one of these Displays once it’s equipped with ProMotion 120Hz.

I checked this out in person— and immediately ordered it. I have a 34inch VESA 600 LG monitor, and it doesn’t hold a candle to the studio display— especially in brightness

Thanks for putting the Studio Display into a proper perspective when compared to other displays.

I think that’s a good opportunity for some company start building a desk vesa mount that complements the studio display design and allows rotating for portrait mode.

Pro display XDR must be the first monitor to match its resolution with its price 1:1 😂

good comparison. One major thing I noticed: the viewing angle changes brightness and color on the new studio monitor. It seemed worse than the older 27 iMac panel I use daily, when I tried it at the apple store. Especially looking a little downward I saw colors and brightness change much more than I am used to. Also the black levels are lacking when comparing to the new laptops or the xdr panels. Made the decision and just ordered an xdr -> better black values, more screen real estate with same size ui, working daily for 6 to 8 hours with design & photo its worth it for me.

I never thought I'd buy the Studio Display so I bought the Ultra Fine LG 5k from Amazon, set it up and was pleased. Then Best Buy had the Studio Display in stock out of nowhere on Friday, so I placed an in-store pickup with the quickness to compare them. First thing I noticed was that when using both monitors at the same time the LG's signal would cut out completely and never turn back on. I had to unplug the thunderbolt to reset the LG. The Studio Display was flawless (as you would guess). After a few hours I realized I would be keeping the Studio Display due to various reasons but the main reason was I needed something that will always be reliable. Just wish it was LED...to solve any height limitations, it currently sits on top of my Mac Studio 🤪

You forgot to mention, that the 32" XDR Display is significantly larger than the 27" Studio Display. That is the main point why I ordered it as I need the space on my Desktop. Thank you for the great reviews!

i believe Apple has confirmed that the Studio Display is not actually a 10-bit display, but rather an 8-bit display with temporal dithering.

Great review. I wanted to add that dimming zones are not ideal for image editing on certain types of images where you have high contrast. The dimming zones can create artifacts (since dimming zones are larger than pixels). When I got my 12.9" M1 iPad Pro with mini LED, I thought it looked great for watching Dolby Vision movies, but I couldn't imagine doing serious photoshop retouching on it. I'm glad Apple went the route they did with the Studio Display (IPS). On another note, you could be correct the monitor's thickness is because it is (or was) destined to be an iMac Pro, but a lot of that thickness is taken up by the internal power supply. The external power supply on the (much thinner) 24" iMac is about the size of an Apple TV. This display would need a larger external power supply than that to allow 96W charging of a connected laptop...

I love thinner bezels and larger screen. so 6K Pro XDR is a winner !!!

I just added a 5K Studio Display to my collection today, which includes the Pro Display XDR. The panel is bright, the sound is good, and the camera is adequate. Much nicer than my $800 Samsung 4k monitor that I use for my work Windows computer (but then, for twice as much, it had better be!)

Another reason for they extra thickness of the frame is due to the internal power supply. You can only make a power supply so thin. Apple did not want a external power brick so they redesigned the power supply.

Agreed. Wish studio display be bigger size. A lot of competition at 27 and 30in market

I’m using the Studio display in combo with a 34 inch Ultra Wide from Dell. I don’t regret my purchase AT ALL. The text on the Studio display is AMAZING! I’m a filmmaker regularly shooting 6k. So seeing my work on that glass display at 5K is awesome. The color is stunning and I love having the speakers as an extra source for audio referencing. The monitor is amazing.

Please compare the Studio display to the discontinued entry level 27” iMac. Once you do this let’s talk about the price and the declining value from Apple

The combination of the display quality, brightness, terrific speakers, 10Gbps-capable USB-C ports and solid construction won me over to the Studio Display from a very cheap 28-in 4k display that was affected by interference from any operating webcam. As the existin 4k monitor used a VESA mount, I chose that option with my Studio Display. I generally use a boom-mounted USB condenser mic which my target audience on Zoom prefers over the built-in mic array. To get around the limitations of the webcam I use Continuity Camera with my iPhone 13 Mini and the Belkin iPhone Mount. Another viable option is Iriun Webcam (iOS and Android) with a phone on a tripod. Iriun Webcam also works with iPads.

If you bought more than one Studio Display to have extra real estate, will audio play from all of them or just the primary one?

This is a really good and informative review. It’s balanced and considered unlike many of the other reviews I’ve seen. If you take into account the excellent build quality, the superb display quality, the higher brightness, plus all the extra features, it’s clearly a high quality monitor with an expensive, yes, but still reasonable price tag.
