These methods work great for acrylic yarns like Red Heart Super Saver. I also prefer to soften my cotton projects (especially clothing).

Be sure to read the care instructions on your yarn label. If cold wash is indicated then mix your preferred softener in cool water.

If you choose conditioner, be sure it’s white in color so it doesn’t stain your project.

I get the best results when I do these methods AFTER I finish crocheting the project.

If you prefer to soften the yarn before crocheting then be sure to put in a sock or hose to prevent tangling while soaking and rinsing.

All three of these methods work well for me! I generally choose the most convenient option and wash on the delicate cycle with fabric softener (as long as it’s not wool or something unsafe for washing machine).
