This Calculus 1 video explains both Mean Value Theorem and Rolle's Theorem, which is a special case of the Mean Value Theorem. We show you how to verify that a function satisfies the criteria of the Mean Value Theorem or Rolle's Theorem, and then how to find the values in the given interval that the theorem guarantees, working out a couple of Mean Value Theorem examples. Necessary conditions of being continuous and differentiable are discussed, and we explain that the theorem shows the existence of a tangent line slope equal to the secant line slope.
