- LYRICS -

Wake up maggie I think I got something to say to you
It’s late september and I really should be back at school
I know I keep you amused but I feel I’m being used
Oh maggie I couldn’t have tried any more
You lured me away from home just to save you from being alone
You stole my heart and that’s what really hurt

The morning sun when it’s in your face really shows your age
But that don’t worry me none in my eyes you’re everything
I laughed at all of your jokes my love you didn’t need to coax
Oh, maggie I couldn’t have tried any more
You lured me away from home, just to save you from being alone
You stole my soul and that’s a pain I can do without

All I needed was a friend to lend a guiding hand
But you turned into a lover and
Mother what a lover, you wore me out
All you did was wreck my bed
And in the morning kick me in the head
Oh maggie I couldn’t have tried anymore
You lured me away from home ’cause you didn’t want to be alone
You stole my heart I couldn’t leave you if I tried

I suppose I could collect my books and get on back to school
Or steal my daddy’s cue and make a living out of playing pool
Or find myself a rock and roll band that needs a helpin’ hand
Oh maggie I wish I’d never seen your face
You made a first-class fool out of me
But I’m as blind as a fool can be
You stole my heart but I love you anyway

Maggie I wish I’d never seen your face
I’ll get on back home one of these days

This song makes me choke up. The night before my Dad passed, I suggested to Mom to play some of his favorite songs. He wasn’t speaking anymore. Movements were few. But as soon as the song started, he smiled, lifted his arm and pointed at the wall. The wall was filled with Beatles memorabilia, but high in the corner… he had this album cover hung up above the window.
I miss you Pops.

This song is one of the best rock songs of all time .. I was a teenager in the 70's and I loved it then, but now that I'm older, yeah I'm 60 and I have that special friend, .. he just turned 39 ..
I'm living the song .. especially when he sings "well the morning sun when it's in your face really shows you're age, but that don't worry me none in my eyes you're everything''
This song makes me feel so much, .. I'm feeling young and alive again ..
Thank you Rod Stewart for that beautiful song it's just as awesome today as it was back then .

Bought this album in the mid 70s while in college. I heard this song first, because of course, it was the one most played on the radio. Also got to see him in concert a couple of years later, right down front. My boyfriend knew just how much I loved Rod Stewart and got us tickets. Fantastic concert!

as a teenage boy I loved this song I, had my short sweet affair, with (my Mrs Robertson) and this was a song playing at the time, hell it still brings back memories of her blue grey eyes, learned a few things about life then.

Was driving home from the Univ of Ga with my brother and sister. This song came on the AM station and was about to fade out. So we parked the car at the top of the biggest hill we could find just to listen to it until the end.

In my opinion, one of the greatest rock songs ever written. Rod sings it like it's really happening and he's really feeling all those things.

You have been an inspiration and a light in the darkness for parts of my life. Thank you Rod Stewart for being a rebel and a rock in the foundation of the music world.
