Huawei P20 Pro | Still good in 2020?

Re-reviewing the Huawei P20 Pro in 2020, a full two years following the original launch and just ahead of the P40 Pro reveal. This innovative smartphone was one of the best flagship Androids of its time, serving up impressive camera tech (including one of the greatest telephoto lenses ever), slick hardware and that lovable Emotion UI software. And even now in 2020, the P20 Pro is still one of Huawei's greatest moments, showing it's easily a match for Samsung, Apple and others. As long as Trump stops banning their devices from using Google, of course.

With this phone about to get EMUI 10 and Android 10, it's great to see that Huawei's older blowers are still well supported. And while the performance and battery life aren't quite as good as they used to be, the P20 Pro is still a great all-rounder. Gaming with the likes of PubG is still a smooth experience and I never struggle to make it through a full, intense day on a single charge.

Then there's the triple-lens camera, which is still a class act. The lack of UWA action is a shame, but that telephoto lens still beats many rivals and everyday photos are definite keepers. The night mode works a treat and I love the bokeh produced by the portrait mode.

Bought it when it came out, still running as smoothly as the first day. I'm loving this smartphone, takes good photos and its performance when it comes to play games or to watch videos on the go is awesome. Loved your re-review :)

An outstanding piece of kit. I've had mine for almost 2 years now and it's as fast today as it was then. The fast charge is outstanding and the battery generally does me a day and a half before I need to charge again and that's without using the power saving modes. I'm a photographer and I've quite a collection of cameras, yet, I use my P20 Pro all the time. The dynamic range is amazing for a phone. I tend to choose the P20 Pro over my RX100 and my LX100, both have become rather redundant now. The 40mp sensor is great, however, it's the 20mp monochrome sensor that I love the most. The images from it are superb, so crisp and detailed. Love the phone!

Still rocking my p20 pro in almost 2021 after 3 years of use. First time in my life I've decided not to upgrade at the end of my contract. I still love it.

Own mine for 3 years now. Very happy to announce that this is a fine piece of machinery. Still as smooth as the first day, kept all my photos since day one of buying this phone and as of today i have in storage nearly 11.000 pictures and 900 videos and still have 23GB free. All of this at absolute no cost to speed or performance. In fact with 6GB ram its actually nearly as potent as my Macbook air... The battery life is amazing and the night time mode for taking pictures is a game changer. The lack of video stability is indeed noticeable and in terms of picture what i do find not to be as good is when you are indoors and dont have much natural light the phone will photograph on the dark side losing a lot of definition even with AI. In comparison the iphones (even iphone 6) will perform a lot better. The phone does have a lot of "Pro" photography settings so if you understand photography im sure you can go around this and adjust it to your preference. This is my experience from a layman's perspective. At the moment I find no reason to upgrade whatsoever however if I were to buy a new phone it won't be a Huawei only because of the problems with google and the fact that a few countries are banishing huawei. Other than that this is TOP TOP NOTCH

Oct 2021. About to head into my 4th year of owning the P20 it's absolutely fantastic, 2days battery life is still good for me and on ultra battery mode 4 days isn't unheard of. Top marks what a good piece of tech.

It's been a great phone for me for almost 2 years. Will probably upgrade during the summer. Would like something with a brighter and little bigger screen. Battery has been bulletproof :)

3 years into ownership of my p20 pro and she's still holding her own, battery has decreased but I still get a full day comfortably out of her, long may it continue, love her!

Had mine (dual sim) since Oct 2019 and will be replacing it with another, as I've bent mine accidentally sitting on it.
Battery life still good - used on and off for 16-17hrs it shows 30+% in reserve. Fast-changing is a dream. The monochrome camera is truly excellent and one of the reasons why I'm looking to replace it with another.

I am a very happy P20 Pro owner of 3 years now. I have ordered an Oppo Find X3 Pro just because I love the look of it but will not sell my P20 as I am very attached to it. Almost 3 years without a single glitch! An incredibly reliable phone. I use the IR blaster for my Smart TV, 2 x HiFi Receivers, DVD Player and my Heat Pump, for that reason alone it is staying with me. A very impressive handset which still performs super fast and is still in mint cosmetic condition.

Wonderful phone, could never run out of storage space, no matter how many pics and videos I take or even after all the apps I downloaded and I use a lot! Fast, wonderful Audio Quality, battery lasts me approximately 20 hours per day with a lot of use! Mobile Data, BT, Average about 50 calls a day!
