I borrowed 2k from my grandma, for a new computer (for school). I paid her back in 3 months.. She was floored because none of my family ever paid her back.

I love it when Dave calls grown men “honey” 😂

I remember once that I had to borrow $1, 600 from my parents at a time when I was financially struggling and it took me a year to pay it back. Worst year of my freaking life. Not because of them but because I felt so bad that I couldn't pay it back sooner. When you have amazing parents you will understand exactly where I'm coming from.

"Dad, can't you just, like, stop asking for it? Just forgive it bro"

When he said “I’ll probably just go be a stripper” that told me everything i needed to know. Everything is about “me me me” and He is a victim. Poor parents

I'm 27 and in the same position as this dude. Been looking for a decent job for months, its Friday now and I start Monday. I'm so thankful and indebted to my father for his leniency bc I owe $8000. I WILL pay him back before I buy anything but bare necessities for myself.

“I borrowed money but I don’t want to, like, pay it back, you know? My parents should just give me the money, no? I don’t like to work.”

You can hear in this guy’s voice that he genuinely does not care about paying his parents back or working at all in that matter

Yes. The son is ungrateful. Take advantage of the parents.

I borrowed 20k from my parents and paid it back, in full, 18 months later. It was my number 1 priority. Some people just dont give a shit

We have loaned our children money at various times in their lives and they always pay us back as quickly as they can. We raised responsible kids who just needed a hand up and we were happy to help. When our daughter needed a new car recently, we helped her find a reliable used vehicle and were able to gift her enough money for a down payment to get the monthly payment to what she can afford; then we gave her brother the same amount in cash. They were both so appreciative. Neither of them have ever asked for a handout.

My parents are Middle Eastern and I'm their daughter. Whenever they have given me money, they never expected me to pay it back. Yet I have always strived to pay back every dollar. My parents are not well off, theyre immigrants who worked insanely hard to get where they are and I deeply appreciate the sacrifice they made. If they hadn't, I wouldn't have been able to attend school past elementary, and i would have had to get married off as a teen. Every dollar I give them is my way of paying them back for allowing me to have a normal life

had to move back in with my parents after a failed engagement. lost my job soon after. went on unemployment and needed money for my bills. Was very humbling and i gained a lot of respect for my parents during that time. but i also did it right. I found a job making great money. paid off ALL my debt, not just to my parents, but on student loans, my car, medical bills. Then I bought a townhouse. I could not have done that without them, and I can see the proof in their parenting in the fact that i never once questioned paying them back every cent. I voluntarily started paying rent and utilities to them, just because. I am extremely fortunate, but things can turn around for anyone with a little determination.

I am surprised to hear a Farrier is broke. Where I live, they ALWAYS have work and make a good living because there aren't too many people around anymore that trim horses hooves, let alone shoe them. Must be lazy or got into the wrong line of work.

Borrowing from family members is always a no-no

I once borrowed 11k from my mom to purchase (down payment) for co-op in NYC. Price was 80k for a two bedroom in 2002. Just three months prior, i had put down 9k on my first brand new car at 24 years old. I paid her back in 9 months with an additional 800.

I sold that place after the black out in 2003 for 140k. I invested my earnings in rental properties in a different state (much cheaper than NYC).

Today (2025), i have three mult-unit rentals. One is already paid off, and the other two will be paid in full in less than 7 years. It was an expensive investment with many sleepless nights. I learned to fix/maintain them.

Now, they are my main source of income. I'm now now, also a licensed contractor, all thanks to that helping hands of my precious mom. I miss her dearly 😔

I do agree. Find a job that pays the bills and get out of debt/build yourself up financially. Do the farrier work on the side-your services are needed, but it may have to be a side hustle for now. Eventually, it can turn into a regular job.

I never borrowed money from my parents they borrowed from me. I told them I won’t borrow you money. I’ll give it to you! I did and never asked for a penny back! Both of my parents are gone, I wish they needed money now. Take care of your parents while you can.
