They aren't paying 19% in income tax in Oregon. It's 9.9% for singles making $125K or more and couples making $250K or more. AT $70K they are paying 8.755% for everything over $22k. That $15K would include federal and state.

Income tax in Canada is 22%-32% depending on where you live, oh and I still owe taxes despite making below the poverty line.

In germany when you file taxes they will actually tell you what you owe ( or get back) no need to go to prison because you dont know what you owe
