Nowadays this 100% would have been a post credits scene

Willem Dafoe was not originally supposed to return for this movie, but he was walking back to his apartment one night and saw the cast and crew filming nearby. He stopped by the set to say hello and the filmmakers decided to give him a cameo appearance.

Just learned today that Dafoe was never planned to appear in Spider-Man 2, he was in it simply because he decided to say hi to the crew when they were filming

That wasn’t Norman, that was goblin, Norman would never ask Harry to avenge him against his best friend

Incredible acting skills from William dafoe to actually die on set and make his soul keep acting as a Ghost

Love the moment Harry throws the knife and it hits the mirror, leading to split second where Norman screaming in the mirror is replaced by Harry's own screaming face

Dafoe’s laugh is pure evil, not even silly like the joker’s

Harry discovering the Goblin’s lair was definitely the moment where the butler should have told Harry that Spider-Man didn’t kill Norman bc I’m pretty sure Harry couldn’t fix that mirror without help from someone.

I always loved how The Goblin is almost like an alter ego. It’s not Norman. Norman is dead. It’s the green goblin

In my opinion Norman Osborn may have died but the Green Goblin never died.

This was the greatest set-up for a sequel I've ever seen. Spiderman 3 should've been a fight to the death between Peter and Harry. No other villains.

This was actually creepy as hell as a kid 😭

To this day, this is still the best set up for a sequel ever.

It's actually pretty hilarious that Bernard 1000% cleaned up the mess Harry made discovering his father's secret villain lair, and they apparently never discussed it.

James Franco and Willem Dafoe make a really convincing estranged father-son duo who love each other but have no connection. It's great stuff.

"But Pete's my best friend."
"And I'm your father."

This one hits for me.

1:34 I like the symbolism of this scene. By removing the spider web, Harry discovers the terrible secret of his father. The secret that his friend Peter, the Spider-Man, tried so hard to hide.

Some people think it's the spirit of the goblin, some think it's Norman, some think one of the performance enhancers leaked. Personally I think it's simply the Osborn curse i.e. madness. Harry is mad, just like his father.

The formula didn't create the Goblin, it just brought out what had always been inside Norman. That ruthless drive to succeed allowed Norman to build Oscorp into the success it was. He took risks he probably shouldn't have but more often than not it paid off and kept the psychotic part of him mostly in check. The act of choosing to test the unstable serum on himself is evidence of him being right on the edge of being unhinged. The Goblin was always there.

Harry meanwhile is constantly failing, constantly losing. The more he fails, the more he loses, the more the madness takes him. While Norman's ruthlessness "fed" the Goblin and kept that part of him under control, the Goblin inside Harry starved. Harry blames Spider-Man for his father's death but is entirely impotent in terms of trying to do anything about it. When he hits Peter at the party, you start to see signs of the Goblin emerging and then at the end, when he discovers that Peter is Spider-Man, his failure is complete and he has a full on mental breakdown.

Norman "unlocks" the Goblin thanks to the formula but Harry is so utterly defeated, so completely broken that the Goblin is able to emerge without the formula. The Osborn madness, passed down from father to son.

I love the way door opens itself. It’s like the Goblin is inviting himself back in.

The green goblins theme song is such a banger I steadily come back just to listen.
