Man. I wish I was even half as motivated as Andy Dufresne.

2:50 For anyone wondering: This chord progression uses a technique called modal interchange. It's when you borrow chords from different scales or modes that have the same root note. It's what creates that epic feeling, changed my life when I learned about it.

this scene where andy crawls out of the shithole this pipe was, runs along the river and finally reaches out his arms to the raining sky, winning back his freedom after 19 years of undeserved imprisonment and suffer combined with this awesome score is definitely the most impressiv and epic scene i ever saw in my 26 years of movie watching. it gives me chills everytime.

How the hell has Thomas Newman not won an Academy Award?! This is one of the best soundtracks ever IMO.

2:51 - The music, the imagery, the narration, virtually everything about this scene is all the proof that is needed when claiming Shawshank Redemption is THE all time great masterpeice that'll never be duplicated

I love the transition at 2:50 from a quiet, calm score to serious business.

I will never forgive the academy for ignoring this masterpiece. It is the best film ever created

The sound of a free man. Released from isolation mentally and physically.

I think if I could have one cinematic wish, I'd like to travel back in time to the night I watched this for the very first time. The only thing better than this movie and this scene, is watching it for the very first time. No other movie has ever so deeply and thoroughly affected me. No movie has ever made you want to break down your own prison walls and achieve greatness more than this flawless piece of cinematic gold. The greatest movie from start to finish ever made hands down.

This music captures the time leading up to Andy's escape from the prison so darn well. I can relive every moment by closing my eyes and listening to it.

It should be illegal to die with out watching this movie. One of the best films I have seen so far in my life.

3:11 the buildup and dissonance, all resolved once he tastes freedom is simply mesmerizing.

"Andy crawled to freedom through 500 yards of shit-smelling foulness I can't even imagine... or maybe I just don't want to. 500 yards -- that's the length of 5 football fields, just shy of half a mile." Amazing.

I love the way the music starts off quiet and sad displaying Andy's despair and hopelessness in his life, but then the intensity of the music increases into a more thunderous and demanding tone. To me it represents Andy's hope in the midst of that despair, because he held on to hope his light could shine through the darkness, he would find his freedom. Some birds aren't meant to be caged and the music so triumphly captures that feeling as Andy is standing in the rain, his spirit had triumphed.

I had thought it'd take a man 600 years
to tunnel through the wall with it.
Old Andy did it in less than 20.
Oh, Andy loved geology.
I imagine it appealed to his
meticulous nature.
An ice age here...
...million years
of mountain building there.
Geology is the study
of pressure and time.
That's all it takes, really.
Pressure...
...and time.
That and a big goddamn poster.
Like I said...
...in prison, a man will do anything
to keep his mind occupied.
Seems Andy's favorite hobby was toting
his wall out into the exercise yard...
...a handful at a time.
I guess after Tommy was killed...
...Andy decided
he'd been here long enough.
Lickety-split.
I want to get home.
I'm just about finished, sir.
Three deposits tonight.
Andy did like he was told.
Buffed those shoes
to a high mirror-shine.
The guards simply didn't notice.
Neither did I.
I mean, seriously...
...how often do you really look
at a man's shoes?
Andy crawled to freedom
through 500 yards...
...of shit-smelling foulness
I can't even imagine.
Or maybe I just don't want to.
Five hundred yards.
That's the length
of five football fields.
Just shy of half a mile.
The next morning, right about the time
Raquel was spilling her secret...
...a man nobody ever
laid eyes on before...
...strolled into
the Maine National Bank.
Until that moment,
he didn't exist.
- Except on paper.
- May I help you?
He had all the proper ID...
...driver's license, birth certificate,
Social Security card...
And the signature
was a spot-on match.
I must say I'm sorry
to be losing your business.
I hope you'll enjoy living abroad.
Thank you.
I'm sure I will.
Here's your cashier's check, sir.
Will there be anything else?
Please.
Would you add this
to your outgoing mail?
I'd be happy to.
Good day, sir.
Mr. Stevens visited nearly a dozen banks
in the Portland area that morning.
All told, he blew town...
...with better than $370, 000
of Warden Norton's money.
Severance pay for 19 years.

One of the most satisfying, uplifting and one of the best scenes in the history of cinema for me. I just love that part where he stands there in the rain! SO
