Is reciting "the sinner's prayer" enough for salvation? Many believe there is nothing wrong with the sinner's prayer. Some believe that the sinner's prayer is unbiblical! Others believe it is very biblical. If it's biblical, where in the Bible can we find it? And, is reciting it necessary for someone to be saved?

And while we are asking questions, "what is the sinner's prayer?" Is there some exact prayer that people use or do ministers just make it up and ask people to repeat it? These and other questions we will answer in this video.

Hey BEAT family! Today's question has come up quite a bit. It involves the infamous "sinner's prayer." When you got saved, did you recite the sinner's prayer and do you think someone can be saved by reciting it?

I prayed the sinners prayer all the time growing up and there was no lasting change, I was still in rebellion against God, still living in idolatry, constantly blaspheming with no remorse and still held bitterness, envy and lots of jealousy in my heart. But at 17 years old 1 year ago, I finally heard the true gospel of Jesus Christ and I was broken, and I finally realized the magnitude of my sin, I had heard I was a sinner all my life, but when I finally realized what that meant it terrified me and realized I deserved eternal punishment for my sins, and then I realized, my Lord Jesus Christ took that punishment in my place and suffered under the wrath I deserved and suffered beyond what I could ever comprehend for me, I didn't earn it, but He gave Himself for me because He loves me more than I could ever know. Once I heard that, I cried out to God to save me and He did, and everything changed, I felt no bitterness nor jealousy no longer, I was freed from idolatry and everything else, I was truly born again, and yes I have certainly made mistakes and sinned and even backslidden, but God is continually sanctifying me everyday and confirming me to Christ. Thank you to everyone who read this I pray it will be a blessing to you. May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you all.

I recited the sinners prayer 24 years ago and it wasn’t until I was 36 that I realized I wasn’t saved. Sadly I think this is happening a lot in my age group. Thankful the Lord didn’t stop pursuing me and now I know with all my heart I am a child of God, praise be to God.

When I wanted to repent, I didn’t know what to say or where to start. I found the sinners prayer as a great STARTING point. After I finished reading it, my prayer continued on a more personal level when I pleaded with the Lord.

This prayer doesn’t matter if your heart isn’t in it 💯

May our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ fill all believers with His Holy Spirit and give us His strength, wisdom and discernment.

When I got saved Jesus himself told me to accept him as Lord and Savior. Then I felt his spirit going all through my body. Then he told me not once but 3 times to quit doing drugs. Then once I agreed to quit I felt an instant change in my heart and the desire was gone. I've been drug free for 24 years!

The sinners prayer: Lord have mercy on me, a sinner - Luke 18:13.

No, the sinner's prayer cannot save you, only Jesus can save you. The so called "sinner's prayer" gives words to the repentant heart to reach out to their Father for mercy. It gives voice to the repentant work begun in their heart by the Holy Spirit, it is the proclamation that Jesus is Lord - "for it is with your heart you believe and are justified and it is with your mouth (a prayer for instance) you confess and are saved."

Greetings from Malaysia. I did not recite any sinner’s prayer. I was a teenager from another faith who went looking for God. I asked the “Unknown God” in which religion He was in. He led me to a Christian testimony & after reading it, I was inspired to believe that Jesus Christ was the God I was looking for. After debating over it for 3 days, one night, I looked up into the darkness while lying in bed and said, “I believe in You Jesus Christ.” Immediately I was filled with a divine peace & joy. I knew I had found it!

I was about 21 years old when I said a prayer just like the one you used at the beginning of video. I didn't understand what I was doing but one thing for sure my whole life changed. The change was slow and progressed over time. The power wasn't in the prayer I made, but it was my confession to God, my belief in who he was and me asking him to lead me. The sinners prayer doesn't seem bad because most people don't know how to pray so if you lead them using the sinners prayer- I think it's good. It's not about the prayer, it's the person's heart.
By the way, I'm 44 years old.

Ephesians 1:13-14 🕊
"In Him you also trusted,  after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,  who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory."

Yes. I agree. Understanding the gospel and understanding repentance, confession, is vital before praying the sinner's prayers. Let's not forget JOHN 6:44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day. -Jesus

I led my father in the sinner’s prayer literally on his deathbed after decades of witnessing to him with him resisting it for so long. I hope and 🙏🏽 pray that he was sincere. I can’t bear the thought if he wasn’t.

I’ve only just passed the phase of “The Skeptic’s Prayer”, which is basically just “If there’s a God, show yourself to me in a way that I’ll understand it’s you”.

I had a radical conversion at age 17 that resulted in an immediate transformation. In the moment I did not fully understand what I was doing. All I know is that I bowed my knee and gave my life to the Lord Jesus. God drew me to Himself and I submitted to Christ which was an exercise of genuine faith granted to me by God. God does sometimes work in mysterious ways but I agree that people should understand what salvation is and what is involved and the evidence of true salvation will be seen in a changed life and a new heart that desires God.

I remember when I first went to church doing the sinners prayer, I can honestly say it didn't do really anything to me, but when I felt God truly in my heart is when I ask him personally, I said Lord if your there please come into my life, please help me understand your word, and that's when I felt this unbelievable radiated heat that warmed my heart for 7 days of perfect peace, it's a feeling I can only explain in that way it was my personal experience, before that I was ready to give up on life as I went through a broken heart during that time, the Bible says the Lord is their for the broken hearted, that's my personal experience with God.

Thanks Allen for the clarification on this highly debated topic. I was saved over 30 years ago as a senior in high school- reciting the sinner’s prayer.🙏🏼And it’s a memory I’ll never forget, because my dad led me to Christ during a hardship I had that year.✝️I remember crying for days soon after, as I believe the Holy Spirit was cleansing me.🕊I sincerely meant every word of that prayer. So your ABC’s regarding this prayer are on point.💯And after all this time, I’m still standing firm in my faith.🙌🏼Not a perfect walk, but a faithful one.🙂Thanks again Allen, God bless you!🙏🏼😌

I must confess that I did not really understand the gospel when I got saved, but then it was as I began to check out what I believed in as I grew that I understood properly what I got myself involved in. Yes. I said the "sinner's prayer"
