It seems that his attitude was different later in his career. He was quality for West Ham. He has talked about how he used to laugh with the lads every single day, got on with everybody, loved the banter and mentored the young players. He could be very serious and demanding but the respect was that he treated every game like it was a Champions League final.

There's a story about a reserve game against
Southend. He was coming back to full fitness. He insisted the first team coach be used so all the youth players were buzzing. Not Craig, he was silent, wearing headphones and mentally preparing for the game. He ran around like a maniac for 90 minutes, got back on the coach and went home.


He even put a serious shift in for Mark Noble's testimonial. The man might be insane.

He had a great year for us at Blackburn, whoever put a minimum fee release clause for not much more than we bought him for made a huge error. Towards the end of the season we nearly bought it out of his contract, but we didn't complete it in time.

Given some of his issues though all I can say is in his year with us he was nothing short of exemplary.

Reading alot of comments about him being a bellend and this and that. But he was a great little player, full of energy, just needed that manager to help learn to control that other hyper side of him. If its in you, its you. It can be controled to be a positive.
