I'm a 17 year old guy that is absolutely obsessed with Dire Straits. Hope to go to Mark Knopfler his concerts sometime, when the pandemic is finally over. Till then, we keep on listening to his good music ;)

The On Every Street Tour was the absolute prime of Dire Straits 😍

Anyone who has personally seen Mark’s solos through an entire concert has no doubt he is the best guitarist ever.

There never has been and probably never will be a rock band whose musicianship I admire and enjoy as much as Dire Straits.

Telegraph Road ... is a warning to us all: be careful what you dream, first as individuals and then collectively as communities. Progress initially begun at a human scale and hopeful, evolves with it's own logic, growing and growing into the all consuming frightful power of a runaway and accelerating mile long freight train. To me the lyrics express this dual nature of bygone hopefulness which over time later generations experience as a dehumanizing treadmill and beast to feed, eventually finding themselves bent collectively, to the labors of Sisyphus.

The music marks this same progression from early simple notes, melodically positive with many complimentary individual even nostalgic themes, Then over time after the lyrics end darkly, the music develops into an unforeseen and terrifying force of nature, a driven, frantic, masterful rush headlong toward an unseen calamity, orchestrated with all the frightening power of knife edge musicianship on full display by all members of the band. Telegraph Road and progress has lead us all where exactly, I think Mr. Knopfler has the sophistication to ask. The best art asks powerful questions, however seldom defines answers, leaving that for us the audience to work thru.

For me, Mark was/is the best guitar player we’ve ever seen. Not just because he is a technical genius but because of the emotion he draws out through his playing. This is the true hallmark of an elite musician. He’s brought me to tears a number of times.

First time i heared dire straits was on tv in 1983
Since that time i fell asleep every night with walkman casette with their music. Bought all the lp, s and when i got the first job and had enough money the first thing i bought was brothers in arms cd.
I always thought he couldn, t do Telegraph road better then the alchemy version but then i heared this one when i was at the concert.
This telegraph road is his best performance

No only is this the best sounding version but I love how effortless he plays it.

Everyone knows Mark is amazing, both as a guitarist and a songwriter. But people only seem to talk about him and his solos on this, i never see anyone talking about Alan. Alan's piano/keyboards playing is a big part of the DS sound, and a very big part of this song, especially Alchemy or this version. Nobody can play these DS songs piano parts like Alan, his chords, phrasing and timing and overall feel are amazing, and a big personal piano/keys influence. Jim Cox and Matt Rollings are great keyboard players, but none of them can give this feel to TR.

I was 28 when I did go to Basel to see 'em in this very concert. Believe me - this obsession will never pass, and I am grateful to this addiction...

Another incredible performance that deserved to be included in the official live. Also in that version it's possible admire the MK's magnificent ability to improvise and the powerful expressiveness of the Dire Straits orchestra.

Back in the summer of 1992 I was doing military service in Finland, and had a ticket to Helsinki Olympic Stadium concert during this tour. One of the most bitter moments of my life was when I was denied leave, and had to stay at the army base on the night Dire Straits played in Finland. I've had this song as a bootleg for ages, and it still reminds me that I should have gone AWOL back then... You live and learn. Anyways, thanks for sharing this - what a masterpiece <3

This is how a storm is built up, reaches its climax and then leaves us in calmness... Devastation is Dire straits and want it to occur over and over !
