Synopsis: Although susceptible to violent outbursts, bathroom supply business owner Barry Egan (Adam Sandler) is a timid and shy man by disposition, leading a lonely, uneventful life -- partly due to the constant berating he suffers from his seven sisters. However, several events transpire that shake up Egan's mundane existence, one of which is falling in love with one sister's co-worker, Lena Leonard (Emily Watson). But the romance is threatened when Egan falls victim to an extortionist.

This movie accurately depicts how insecure introverts can be, especially when they have some childhood trauma like bullies, or bad parents/siblings. Adam Sandler is absolutely top notch in this one. PTA is the master.

I rented this thinking it was going to be another goofy Billy Madison type film, but I was pleasantly surprised by what it turned out to be. Sandler has some good acting chops with the right script and director.

I was underwhelmed by 'Boogie Nights' and 'Magnolia', but when I watched this, I realised he had become better and more mature. Then he made 'There Will Be Blood' and established himself as a master.

My 10th grade drama/theater teacher put this on when it came out for rent.... at that time in the very early 2000s Adam Sandler was at his movie really threw me off watching it as a 16 year old who loves comedy

This may sound unusual, but to truly appreciate this movie and understand its brilliance, it's helpful to have experienced anxiety and struggles with insecurities or to have a good understanding of them.

Brilliant movie . I used to be riddled with social anxiety . About 3 years ago I got over it completely. Recently it’s been no problem . At times I felt alone a lot . It’s hard to break out of . Sometimes God and life can lead u in the right direction . Lovely acting and music throughout . Would watch again for sure . Very laid back and relaxing this film !
