How do you get a half spider budgie
In the case of the half-sider budgerigar, both embryos must possess different genetic phenotypes (one green, one blue, for example) in order for a visible half-sider to be produced. If both "halves" were the same color, it would still be a tetragametic chimera, but not a half-sider.

I'm not sure why anyone would breed those feather duster or helicopter budgies, especially considering their short life spans.
I wonder if the black face budgie came about because someone was trying for a solid black budgie. I suspect the black faced is the closest one could get. Years ago I read that no one has ever produced a red or orange budgie. Maybe breeders are still trying.

Half sider isnt a mutation, and has nothing to do with genetics. It is actually two budgies that fused together durkng development inside the egg. Cool video though.
