We can blame Nickelodeon and Disney all we want, but there needs to be parental accountability when they’re signing contracts and shoving their kids into the limelight.

it’s about time that people start realizing how evil disney really is

I’ve heard so many horrible things about Disney and Nick, I’m so saddened as a fan & parent when I go back and watch these shows knowing what they’ve gone through.

I really really really NEED to hear miley cyrus‘ story at one point!
She was Disney‘s biggest star. I bet there is A LOT there that we don’t know about.

Love when child stars grow up and realize “oh….. you….. you can’t hurt me anymore!?!? Get ready for me to ruin your whole life.” And I’m here for it

They did not get enough money to get overworked. I feel sorry these actors that made our childhood happy, were not happy and not being taken cared. I hope every actor who was hurt by Disney say THEIR story and THEIR side. Expose everything

The fact that this is the beginning of the end of nick and disney is bittersweet, I can’t look back at their nostalgia without cringing but I’m so happy for these stars who made it out of their trauma.

I was in college when the Vanessa Hudgens thing happened. Keep in mind: this was the mid-to-late 00s, which was very different time. It was the era of Paris Hilton’s leaked tape and Britney Spears’ upskirt photos… and no one cared. In fact, women who were in these situations were often made to feel like it was their fault— she was told she shouldn’t have taken racy pics, shouldn’t have worn such a short skirt, she was “asking for it, ” etc.

Every time I look back on that era, the rampant sexism and exploitation of women in the entertainment industry makes me so sick. I can’t believe we were all so used to it that we didn’t even notice.

I don’t think anyone can say for certain that Disney has changed or not. With the Vanessa hudgens “scandal” she was receiving a lot of backlash so Disney punished her whereas when Olivia released her songs which included non-Disney-friendly words she was praised so Disney didn’t care so they’re probably less strict with Olivia. Most peoples views have changed since when Demi and other actors like the jonas brothers were on the show so we don’t know if disneys overall changed as a company or if the whole time they ran on public perception

I think Olivia Rodrigo is Disney's Ariana Grande and they probably make a special exception for her just like they did with Ari at Nickoloden, because she is a huge pop star and brings lots of money to the program.

it’s sad because growing up we looked at our favorite people an didn’t know how stressful they were having it an how much they are growing through until now when they talk about it an it kinda makes u look at Disney a different way because that’s not how everyone should’ve been treated on that channel but with time going by an kids growing up an out generation changing of Olivia can talk about having a drink then Disney has let their rules slide an not be mad at her for talking about it but I really hope Demi does this so we can hear all the sides to our favorite people an give them our full support

Those contracts back then were INSANE! It got to the point where it caused many actors and singers of Disney trauma. Even Zendaya has stated that the best advice she can give to new and incoming actor an/or singer is to READ THE CONTRACTS! Who knows maybe Olivia Rodriguez actually read hers and got a better deal. Or maybe the Disney we know from the early 2000s, has changed but only a little….

Disney was so strict that when Mitchel Musso got an ear pierced after season 1 of Hannah Montana they made him always have long hair to cover it. They told him he would be fired if he cut it

Oliva just has much more power than the other stars did. She has more leverage and like you said, a team of her own. While Disney will live on forever, they still need social media juggernauts like Oliva to stay competitive. When they picked up people like Demi, they were picking up young actresses fighting for roles on the streets of Hollywood staying in hotels with their parents while on auditions. Oliva already had money and power when they hired her. She wasn't staying in hotel rooms or going to auditions with her parents.

Honestly Disney is ridiculous for expecting these teenagers to just not act like regular freaking teenagers. Not all, but most teenagers do stupid stuff, experiment, etc. to ask them to be clean cut 247. when you’re a teenager you’re going to do what you’re told you’re not allowed to do. It’s really as simple as that and for Disney to think otherwise and punish these kids is ridiculous.

I'm glad that Demi is finally not being criticized for literally just breathing and is finally being heard

The being replaceable thing. Though I was a little old to be watching the Disney channel at the time, I remember when Mitchel Musso was kicked off Pair of Kings for his underage DUI. Also the reason he had to have his hair so long was his pierced ears

Child actors are very rarely treated well, especially in these big money hungry companies. It’s disgusting how many vulnerable people have been exploited by the industry. New actors simply don’t have the money or the resources to turn down roles, and because of this they are overworked and treated horribly. There are so many people who aspire to be on the big screen, so actors are treated as replaceable. As someone who has always loved performing, I can’t blame these children. They are fascinated by the thrill of being on set, or talking in front of thousands of people. Being on stage of in front of the cameras creates this electric excitement. But these producers are full blown predators. They see this passion and exploit it as a weakness until these children are practically dragging themselves away from the fire they have been forced to dance in. And the terrible thing is, I’m fully aware of all this. And I still yearn to be an actor.

I just think, what kind of parent would allow their children to get treated this way? I begged to be a child star and my mother refused . Now I understand
