A growing global movement is fighting to give nature the same legal protections as humans. Panama is one of the only countries in the world where this exists, with a country-wide rights of nature law. The law was recently used to shut down a large copper mine. CBS News' Ben Tracy has more on the law and the woman who made it happen.

"CBS Saturday Morning" co-hosts Jeff Glor, Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson deliver two hours of original reporting and breaking news, as well as profiles of leading figures in culture and the arts. Watch "CBS Saturday Morning" at 7 a.m. ET on CBS and 8 a.m. ET on the CBS News app.

They should have more rights than humans - they are more important than us. We would not be here without them.

God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth” [Gen 1:26–28].

The U.S. should incorporate such laws as well!

It's this instinct and love for creation that helps our species survive. Take care of the land and it takes care of you. No rocket ship or other planet can compare ❤🌎

We will make this planet uninhabitable to humans if we do not do more things like this!
