Biodiversity is the key to life on Earth and reviving our damaged planet, says ecologist Thomas Crowther. Sharing the inside story of his headline-making research on reforestation, which led to the UN's viral Trillion Trees Campaign, Crowther introduces Restor: an expansive, informative platform built to enable anyone, anywhere to help restore the biodiversity of Earth's ecosystems.

Restoring biodiversity means assisting damaged or destroyed ecosystems. It usually involves bringing back lost species that are found naturally in the area. That is why it is important to identify what naturally lives in the area you want to restore.👍

Because of the pandemic, we now have proof of just how much our "activity" damages the enviroment. Everyone that looked outside in April and May and smelled the air, watched the waters, and witnessed wildlife on our streets cannot deny anymore just how much impact we do on our planet.
In the coming years I hope we will see (more) action done in the direction of Ecology, instead of the direction of Economy.

"Stop the damage, and start the repair."
This.

Admitting mistakes is so difficult and so important, and it's essential to stop everything turning into an online shouting match. Drawing sensible conclusions from large data sets and inspiring the necessary action is definitely the way to go! 🌱

It’s one thing to know the association between wildlife and a humans well being and actually experiencing it. I grew up in a part of FL where I was surrounded by wildlife, our family garden is wild. I really took for granted the sounds of the rain hitting the trees that surround our house and the birds chirping in the morning. When I left to study in NY... I found my self unable to sleep, feeling anxious, I had to set my Alexa up play those noises for me, but it really isn’t the same. Every time I visit home I can’t wait for the days it rained and the sound of the birds, and digging my hand in the soil to plant new fruits or other plants. I loved this video so much because I wish other people knew how important the string is to our life and everything around it... most importantly our wildlife ❤️

I don't think you made a 'mistake in communication'. Only those wanting to continue the unsustainable exploitation of the natural environment took the idea that planting trees (any tree) would by itself solve the problems of climate change and habitat destruction. Your message is clear and inspiring.

I have been trying to explain this to people involved in tree planting movements. With no assurance that they have taken into account the biodiversity and need for 0 monoculture plantings. Thank you for this video.

Ugh, really enjoyed this Ted Talk, Thomas Crowther you have a way of speaking! I love the emphasis of it's bigger than just companies/leaders getting involved it's EVERYBODY. Today is the day to do something! I love that message cause it's important. People always tell me "why difference does it make if I don't engage?" it makes all the difference. We got to change that mindset and move forward together for a better sustainable change.

Growing native plants is one of the most important aspects to rebuilding our soil's seed banks to fight off the non-native invasive threat.
The situation is beyond dire.
I still plant seeds and propagate natives while removing non-natives.
And people in general still seem blissfully unaware and they focus so much on the day to day and blaming and their distractions as they buy buy buy.

The one thing that the pandemic has exposed is how important Local activism is, take care of yourself and the “globe” will follow.
