I worked with Vern when this tragedy happened. He and his wife are honestly the best people and Lauren had such a beautiful soul. I wish I could have done more but all I was able to do was paint a portrait of Lauren for them. It’s the most important piece I’ve ever painted and every paint stroke broke my heart even more because of why I was painting it. She was so senselessly taken from the world and from her amazing family. I hope Vern and Bianka are able to find some peace and I hope they know that Lauren still lives on in the hearts of everyone who was blessed by her presence in this world 💜

Luckily, she was several blocks over. Vern and Bianka are the most wonderful ppl, and my heart hurts for them. Bianka often posts memories of Lauren on her Facebook. She was a sweet, smart, beautiful, and caring young lady.

i was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder last year. it’s basically schizophrenia + a mood disorder. i am living a happy, healthy life. im the mother of a beautiful two year old girl. i have two wonderful pets, a dog and cat. it’s possible to have these disorders and do the right things in life. it’s possible to live with these disorders and be a positive person. i will never understand how some people can sink so low and do the most heinous acts.

Yep. This is why CHILD MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS. And why it infuriates me that it's so hard to access and isn't prioritised or funded at all, and all we do is pile pressure on teens with school work and assessments and deadlines and homework. I've tried to access help for my pre-teen boy for years and I just get told the waiting list is years long.

The mother’s screams on the recording legit brought tears to my eyes… and the father’s statement really hit hard. He really embodies love and forgiveness the best way anyone in his situation could. I have children (one in middle school) and honestly speaking, I could NEVER be the good person he is. Especially to the person who stole my child from me, took away the years of seeing who they would grow to be and the life they would have lived.
