Great explanation. I use MQTT regularly for home automation, and I love the "forgiveness" it gives with sometimes sketchy network connectivity, as well as the great way manufacturers are using it in a "sleep till I need to fire a simple update" technique that conserves battery life in remote devices that may not have mains power available.
