People ask me if they can match an officer's attitude if the officer is being rude or aggressive. While I know it's tempting, my advice is NO!

In my experience as a lawyer, it's far better to appear calm and collected while an officer is being rude and aggressive on body cam footage. I have had cases where the jury gets mad at the cop and comes back in minutes with not guilty verdicts for my clients. Matching aggression with aggression will only put you in danger and at risk for more charges, so try to remain calm and polite.

I know that when an officer says "Your eyes are red, you been drinking?" and asking back "Officer, your eyes are glazed, you been eating donuts?" doesn't work out too well.

I actually used this and got off with a warning.

I had an encounter with a Virginia State Trooper who was out of his mind on adrenaline because I passed him on a snow-covered road and he was unable to keep up. I was in a 4WD truck with lots of traction and I have many years experience driving in icy, snowy conditions with no accidents while he was in a Crown Victoria with highway tread. I wasn’t speeding or driving recklessly, but he pulled me over anyway because he claimed I was driving too fast for conditions, which is subjective. When I was calm and cooperative, he became even more aggressive and irate, trying to bait me into a situation. He even said he knew the CEO of my company and threatened to tell him about my behavior. Still no reaction by me. He finally just went back to his cruiser and left without ever getting my license or registration. I warned my boss that the CEO might get a call, but nothing ever came down the chain. I guarantee he reviewed the dash cam footage and saw what an ass he made of himself and decided to leave well enough alone.

Shining a flashlight into my eyes completely blinded me. I was parked in my driveway and couldn't even roll down the window. (Keys were not in the ignition.) Cop was screaming.

I sat in an interrogation room for 6 hours when an acquaintance of mine was found passed. For 6 hours the only thing i exclaimed was "i want my lawer and I'm not gay..
I had detective's slamming the table i was threatened repeatedly, but i did get the last laugh when i walked out laughing 🤣🤣🤣

Stifling a sarcastic reply is going to be SUPER DUPER difficult for me, but intellectually I do understand that it's the RIGHT way to go.
