The 'Definitive' Versions of Two Classic Space Anime

Why do I feel like original Legend of the Galactic Heroes is the best version of that story, while I'd only recommend the new Space Battleship Yamato 2199? There's gotta be some reason, and that reason - unsurprisingly - has everything to do with the kind of story that they're trying to tell.

Yamato's op was one of the few anime openings I didn't just skip through every time. It seemed almost silly at first, but the further I got into the show, the more hype the op got.

I agree with both statements in a way, but in my opinion with LotGH The battles in the original are much more enjoyable. its not about cool effects, its about classy design with weaponry being a tool not a flashy animation all set to the well chosen pieces of classical music. The soft "schoo shoo" of the lasers, the simple stately sleek ships of the empire contrasted with the functional somewhat cobbled together look of the Alliance ships, the gentle floating around of the ships sets a great example of extraordinary become mundane making the universe feel more real and believable. To me the reboot holds no candle to the classic hand drawn original.

By far one if not the best Anime i have ever enjoyed.

Legit I only knew about Yamato because of that one episode in Keroro where they went to see their mum's studio to learn about making anime, definitely will watch this when have time.

This video is great & I agree with your point on 2199 & LoGH. However, I really hope the spectacle-filled nature of 2199 trumping its narrative focus won't betray your expectations for 2202, a masterpiece of narrative fiction in my mind.

Space Battleship Yamato 2199 is like my favourite anime, to this day, super rewatchable. That said I have never tried watching LOTGH (original) though it does sound epic. Maybe after I get though Mobile Suit Gundam UC timeline I can check it out, I think I've seen the movie or special, Legend of the Galactic Heroes my Conquest is the sea of stars.

For me it's imp that the new thesis although not going with original story it's unique aspect makes it worthwhile to watch 💯 original is great as well but neue thesis has its own status

LOGH is not the only classic anime worth watching people, watch more Dezaki and Takahata.
