I thought he was always just being thoughtful. My 19 year old, who is incredibly cynical (he gets it from me), has mentioned more than once that "Damien gets it." I'm not really sure what "it" is but my kid likes him as a role model so that's good enough for me. He seems like a kid with his head on straight.

damien is literally my fav smosh person, he’s so genuinely empathetic it gives me faith in humanity. That applies to a lot of the smosh cast but damien the most. If I had to pick one person from smosh to become friends with, it would be him for sure.

as someone who is a minority is a lot of different areas, damien never really took me as someone who was disingenuous. he always comes off very thoughtful. it’s also very true that weirdos flock together (for example me and all of my friends) and with damien being into nerdy things and also being neurodivergent, he probably has gained a lot more understanding for other people’s perspectives, at least a lot more than people who can fit more easily into societal norms. plus it’s really not that hard to be a decent person and that’s all he’s doing

For me it is very easy to tell the difference between someone who says things like this for their image vs someone who says it because they mean it; based on their language. When Damien (anyone, really) makes the kinds of comments you're referring to, I listen to the type of language he uses to see what community he gets his information from. I am 100% certain that Damien says everything he does because he means it and believes in it. It is sometimes obvious to tell when he is not 100% versed in a certain topic/subject, but that he means well and is genuinely trying to give his opinion with the knowledge he does have; and even when he does this he is always sure to mention that he does not know everything about the subject, and to take his opinion with a grain of salt. To be a "White Knight" you have to do it with the intention of gaining something from it. Damien does not, he does it because it's what he truly believes and he does not want anyone thinking otherwise. It is honestly refreshing to see an influencer be so honest about what they do and don't know, and be open about being so accepting.

Ever since Damien started to slowly appear in more and more mainstream smosh and smosh pit content, I’ve always felt like we are both on the same wavelength and I couldn’t understand why until the last 2 or so years when I found out that not only does he have OCD like me but he also has ASD and ADHD like me as well. I’ve always related so much with his visible struggle to fit in with the rest of the cast in his early days of being on smosh pit, the anxiety and fear that you could subtly see in his body language and facial expressions that he’s gonna say or do the wrong thing and everyone is all of a sudden not gonna like him anymore. I love him, platonically.

he’s probably one of the most respectful and articulate men on the internet, and it makes me really sad that he gets given shit about it when he’s literally an example i wish other men would follow more. i’d feel safe with him as a woman just based on the way he expresses himself and takes time to listen to every view point and opinion. and it’s sad the way his face drops when he gets asked the question- i know he’s heard this before.
