making goals is actually such a great tip. i remember accidentally eating with bloody hands and decided to go to a hospital/clinic. the closest one was pretty far, so i set out. i had some issues, but i made it, and i felt a great sense of accomplishment by just reaching a city

I have a little over 100 hours now but my first real experience when i had first booted up was amazing. I got beat up by infected and found two geared guys who helped me out evem though i kept passing out. We ran to prison island where i again got beat up by infected. I learned how to make rags and bandage myself from one of the geared guys. I was passing out for probably 2 total hours of the 4 hours i teamed with them. Until we got ambushed at their base while roasting tomatoes and i took a good one to the dome piece.

For me the biggest things to enjoy the game were: 1. DON'T get attached to your loot. 2. Don't take it personally. Much like he said about treating each new life as a new journey. Honestly, watching heybarmby laugh his ass off when someone betrays him went a long way to getting me to just roll my eyes, shrug it off and keep on going.

Don't be afraid to explore! Once you have the basics, dying and restarting isn't so bad after all - and you never know what you can find out there!!!

I like the concept of Dayz that there is no point in making a base and no point trying to gather and save loot because there is no respawn points and bases can be raided easily while it takes hours on end to make them. It makes for the perfect game to kill some time and just log in to play for a little bit and no give a fuck about whether you die or not or lose gear or not because none if it matters. There's no bases, no respawn points, no nothing. Just adventure till you die, and you start it all over again. And the fact you can log in and log out at anytime and start back right where you left out. Beautiful. Once I realized there were not spawn points and bases were essentially a massive waste of time and pointless, it made the game so much more relaxed and enjoyable for me.

The thing I hate is dropping in with absolutely nothing and getting attached by zombies and theirs not at least one bandage in a single house that feels like it’s already been raded with players

Treating every life as a new adventure is the GOAT of advice to new players imo.

I actually just finished an epic adventure with a couple guys on my friends list who have never played the game before. I hiked from Severograd to Solnichniy to pick up the first guy, who I had to nurse from the brink of death, then we both hoofed it to Kamyshovo to pick up the other guy, who almost died the minute we got there. After he was able to travel, we started the trek way back up to the Severograd area. Two of us had crossbows, which made ot much easier to make progress, but we still almost died more than once. At one point we were leaving a police station, and one guy suddenly saw another player come around the corner, in a manner he described as aggressive, so he instinctively hip-fired his crossbow and killed the guy outright. That was a huge morale boost for all of us, and it was all we talked about for the next 20 minutes or so. After several hours, and several needless fiascos with agroing zombies, we somehow all made it back to my camp quite healthy. I took a huge risk making that trip for a couple complete noobs, but with my guidance they did pretty well, and I got a derringer out of it, which was worth the whole trip, because derringers are my favorite guns IRL, and I've never found a derringer on the console version of DayZ. I thought it was PC only.

Subscribed. Loved the video and the advice. Read all the comments and learned more. Learned about DayZ from my 50 year old son. I got a couple hours being taught by him but he still works and has other interests too. So, I went solo for a while. Still so much to learn for this old brain. I do have a tip or 2 for noobs/fresh spawns. (1) Still starving upon spawn ? Find an orchard and spend a little time there. Fruit will start spawning in. Not the best food but it may hold off starvation till that lucky break comes. (2) Sprinting just uses up stamina and if you sprint everywhere you may not have that stamina when you need it most. Like when you have nothing or at least, very little and you see other players. Time to be elsewhere. Or you have a ton of Infected agroed on you. Stamina may help you get into a building. Close all the doors and lie down as far from exterior walls as possible until they calm down and wander off. (3) You want to go inland but have no idea where another town is. Follow power lines. They go from town to town and are safer than roads. When you come upon a new town, find some concealment and check out the town for players and/or infected. Players make infected spawn in. A group of infected may indicate where a player is or was. Dead bodies are a sign players are here or have been here not so long ago. (4) Some players want to look cool. I say to hell with fashion. Wear the best clothing for warmth and protection while blending into the background. (5) Wearing the biggest or brightest backpack draws attention to someone with gear for the taking. A dull colored small backpack is not so noticeable and teaches you not to be a hoarder with everything under the sun. (6) Watch videos of playthrus put out by pros with thousands of hours. When they meet new players and talk to them, they never stop moving. They glance around to keep aware of their six. (7) An improved knife can be crafted from stones or bones. It's better than nothing. (8) Learn how to make a fishing pole and hooks. You can keep yourself fed with fish.

I totally agree that I’m happier when I let go of a past life but there’s nothing sweeter than revenge.

Especially when you spawn in the flanking position. And you already have a gun stashed.

Me and a mate started playing about a week ago and just getting used to the game. He was helping me make my first fire in a house and we were getting ready to cook up a feast with some chickens. Suddenly this dude walks through the door catching us unawares. For about 2 minutes there was this standoff. He finally started to attack my friend and so for the first time I reached for my shot gun and with one loud shot the intruded was dead! I can’t believe how intense it was. This game is very unique!

Good vid. A couple of helpful "bullet items" to remember will help with surviving. The famous "5 C's" of Dave Canterbury: Cutting Tools,
Combustion Devices, Cover, Container, Cordage. Then add the military's three "B's" of logistics: "Beans, Bullets, Bandages".

Im on the most odd play thro presently...been alive for weeks??🤔
Currently playing as a hunter medic...every person & group I have run into has needed food, drink or medical supplies, so I just run up, say Kia ora and offer grub, drink or aid.
I stay dressed as a hunter, only carry a hunting rifle & pistol and NEVER kill on sight...talk first!, you may be surprised at the feast you recieve 😁
(Vanilla cherno server...so if you see a Hunter appear, say hi, I carry meat, medical & beer!! - all freely given if needed🥰...Bandits & KOS players need not apply! - your the "other" prey I hunt!)
Kia Kaha all...and good luck out there!

Great vid. I love this game just started playing last month. I’ve ran into a lot of people who killed site. But I got used to dying and I was excited to go on the hunt for new gear and food.

Started trying to play on the ROG Ally, got most of the controls mapped, 100 minutes in im starving in some sort of rail yard, 130 mins in i find food, couple pistols, my first knife and water.
145 minutes in im opening chrismas presents in the rain because theres a christmas event. 150 minutes in im constantly passing out due to loss of blood in a nearby classroom because the chrismas tree sent fireworks up in the air and alerted a horde of zombies. 11/10 would play again.
