How To Paint Wood Paneling The RIGHT Way - Living Room Makeover

In this video we show you how to paint wood paneling the RIGHT way...by first using an oil-based primer to seal in the tannins. We also used a paint sprayer to save hours and hours of painting all the cracks & crevices. We absolutely LOVE how this living room makeover turned out! Be sure to see the final Before/After shots at the end!

Tannins are natural coloring in wood and wood stain that will bleed through any water-based/latex paint that you apply. No matter how many coats you keep putting on, the paint will not cover UNLESS you first seal it in with an oil-based primer. Although oil-based primers are very nasty/fume-y, this step is crucial to have a quality final product.

We absolutely LOVE how this project turned out and @BEYONDPAINT looks absolutely beautiful! Not to mention it will be extremely durable for years to come.

You two are a great team! Few points I have learned painting would include washing your panels with a good TPS solution and water first. Then do your caulking and repairs THEN prime. Two coats for that paneling would probably have been better since going with a white top coat. Also water based on oil based is best after oil based can cure for at least 3 days. Jut some tips for long lasting paint job. Love u guys!

You know y’all have a good channel when I’ll watch through the whole video even though I don’t have any plans of painting wood panels! Can’t wait to see what y’all do with the new house, and I can’t wait to see the airstream bathroom!

I always say that paint is the easiest and cheapest way to transform a room or piece of furniture- you really proved that here! It looks awesome. Congrats on your new house; can't wait to see what you will do with it!!

Looks great guys! What a nice cousin you are! I sanded my pine floor boards and used wood lye to bleach them a pale colour which is what the Scandinavians use.

Hey that room turned out very nice. Amazing what you did there with that old pine. Hard to believe that orange look was so very popular in the 50s and 60s.

I sprayed a house with Kilz without a carbon filtered mask (used a respirator with the particle filters). I was high as a kite for hours afterwards.

AS ALWAYS, a detailed how to do project. Material and labor. Informative. Educational. Entertaining.
I imitated... put on protective suit. Eyeglasses. Respirator. However, I added earplugs! That compressor was so annoying! LOL
Great job as always guys. Thank you❣
I loved one of the earlier comments...

The rooms looks so much bright and better! I have an a-frame with all wood interior walls that are varnished. I need to sand all that varnish before applying the oil based primer, right?
