Ok y’all need to calm WAY down. It’s okay to pray in a restaurant, I made an accidental faux pas, and this is gently dramatized for comedic effect. If you’re completely condemning all folks who participate in organized religion or calling me nasty names, remember you’re a guest in my comments section and it’s a privilege that can be taken away if you can’t handle it

This is based on several true stories where I have just…truly…no awareness of my surroundings at ALL

Waitstaff: keep quiet, walk away, or join in.
Prayer leader: respectfully, we’re hungry.

That's when you walk away then come back a while later 😂

I feel like most servers know to step away if a party is praying over their food. If you don’t, you should. My family always asks a C blessing on the food, and we’ve literally never been interrupted by a server.

One thing I learned that was great, was saying prayers BEFORE you enter the Restaurant.

I grew up in a very religious family. But we always kept our prayers silent and to ourselves in restaurants so as not to disturb others and also because our church taught that praying publicly when not at a religious gathering was seen as "puffed up" and showing false piety. BUT that is not everyone's faith, and that's okay. I'm no longer religious at all, personally, but so long as the praying people aren't being disruptive, then there's no problem with letting them pray over their food imo.

I admit, my family does pray before food, .but, we do keep it short

This made me laugh. I have definitely been part of a praying party and seen a variety of lengths and attitudes. I have also seen how it can be awkward for servers if they come up without realizing it. Some easily slipped away with people barely noticing, but once someone does notice it can result in an awkward exchange, depending on reactions. I don't understand why anyone would look at either party in this skit as disrespectful and obviously it is exaggerated. If you can't laugh at a situation like this you really need to stop being so serious. I like to remind myself that Jesus was said to be more joyful than all his disciples. He laughed a lot!

If I was waitstaff & a customer was praying, I would quickly walk away.

When with another person in a restaurant, we pray aloud, but not loud. There’s just enough volume for the other person/people at the table to hear. Can’t see why that would bother anybody unless you’re looking for something to be offended about which I am not concerned about.

We pray when with certain people but we just lift our plate to the lord. Easy and simple.

Lol my family always did our prayer at the end of the meal, it was our way of saying we were finished and were asking to leave the table.

No idea why we did it at the end, but every meal until my mom passed ended this way.

lol. Rhere usedvto be a group who would come eat chicken wings at my regular lunch place and they would basically kidnap and control the whole back room with a long elaborate prayer. They would hold the waitstaff’s hands in their circle! It was so awkward feeling. But after the 3rd time I was kinda over it and I just got my wings goin! I wasn’t gonna interrupt but if my eating them while hot bothered them- good . They at least tipped which was more than some than obnoxious groups I have seen!

Not where I thought that was going. I thought they were going to pray for 10 minutes then complain that their food is cold 😅

Now make em treat you horribly like the church prayer types I deal with every Sunday. They act like good people but when they leave that building they repeat all the behavior they were just apologizing for in church

Who wouldn't just walk away and allow them there space for a few moments

I would hope that the prayers aren't spoken as loudly as this one was 😬
