Today, I have the Electro-Voice RE20 in the Audio Hotline Studio! This microphone is a CLASSIC! This mic has been used in a lot of different audio industries and continues to be a staple in all of them! Whether you are thinking about starting a podcast, radio show, recording music, etc... The RE20 has probably been brought up for all of them. Even though it is considered a “broadcast” mic it has made its way into the hearts of a lot of audio professionals and audio lovers.
In this episode I go through a little bit of my history with the mic and then I of course tell you all of the details about it and then I throughly test it!
Be sure to check out the testing and audio samples and see if this is right for you! Every person has different expectations of audio gear. If the features are what you need, and you like the sound, then it is right for you!

Thanks for watching the Audio Hotline! I'll see you Audio Nerds next time!

I can honestly appreciate the quality of this video so much. Everything, the edits, the sound, the video, everything. Very well done.

My dream mic, I’m using the RE 320 at the moment.

bro, why do you have so few subscribers? with this video quality you are at the level of big channels like Podcastage etc!

My rule of thumb is if I don't need to do any processing, than it's a damn good mic. This falls in that category. Great video!

Why do I always like the expensive stuff the best? 🤔

After using the SM7B for a year or so, I’m definitely reconsidering the RE20. In my video review of the RE20, many have told me that it sounds best.

The one thing that scares me a little bit is that the internal foam needs to be replaced. The company quoted me at around $250 and it needs to be serviced every 3-5 years.

Great video...new two quick questions... what are the foam panels that you have on the back wall and what lights are you using to light them. The definition between the blue and purple is awesome. It looks great... thanks

Sounds GREAT on your voice man.
In my experience, it also sounds fantastic on guitar cabs and on kick drum.

Great review, btw new re20s come in a soft shell case nowadays, which are a lot more secure because they are closed with a zipper and not with these easily to snap open clips the old plastic case used

Great review as always dude! BUT, I have searched and searched for that blind test video that you so vigorously encouraged us to take a look at and I can't fricking find the link! Despite this flaw you are still an A+ to me! <3

do you find the RE20 suffers with sibilance? Would an SM7B be a better choice with sibilant voices?

Similar experience, I bought a used re20(it was the black one so I thought it had to be newer/less likely to have issues right?!). I was wrong, it had multiple internal issues. Had literally no low end, was extremely tinny, and a terrible noise floor. To get it to sound even sort of similar to youtube videos I had to give it like 9-10 db of eq in the low end but then it sounded over processes, but still had the tinny, and noise floor problem. Based on what I could find out it probably had the diaphragm damaged and/or the brass tubes that are used for the variable D stuff were damaged. I even tried it with two different audio interfaces to double check my sanity lol

To my ears this was one of your best sounding videos. It is also the first one that I can recall that you didn't use the Zoom. Why the change?
