"We do this not because it is easy, but because we thought it would be easy."

As someone in STEM, the amount of discoveries made by accidentally screwing something up is astounding. There is a real charm in the balance between doofus and genius

the definition of "too smart for their own good"

I'm smart enough to know that the project is going to be hard and unpleasant and take forever. And yet, stubborn enough to also want the project done.

the very essence of the speech: "Were doing this NOT because it is easy. But we are doing it because we thought it was easy!".

Josh just called me smart so I'll take that win.

The really unfortunate situation is when your near the end of the project, having solved many problems and pushed through many difficulties along the way then as the goal comes into sight you realize one last obstacle... the final step just involves more money then you can justify or afford...

A big problem is a lot easier when you turn it into a lot of small problems you can solve on their own

Being too smart and never learning how to manage it is a curse worse than being extremely dumb.
At least an extremely dumb person ain't smart enough to realize they have a problem.
Meanwhile a dumb, but smart enough person is going to work hard to make up for their stupidity, while a smart person will breeze through problems for many years and not run into a situation where they have to work hard... and when they do run into it, it's too late to learn.

I opt for a hybrid approach. I anticipate what problems I can, move forward whether I have a plan or not at that point, then think about solutions when encountering the first problem until I get burnt out. Then I step away for a bit and do something else snd come back later and repeat the process.

I am intelligent enough to know how much I don't know and it overwhelms me.
VS
I know just enough to get by, and I'm okay.

I'm even worse, started making a Garry's mod map, "oh I'll keep it small", hours later at 50% or so of vertex limit, "oh, I'm starting to reach the vertex limit. I should work on it until I get close to the vertex limit then wrap it up"
a few more hours later "oh huh! I found this way to save on vertices without making the map smaller!"
a few more hours later "I want to die"

I think it was either Bill Gates or Steve Jobs that said “Hire someone who is lazy, because they will find the most efficient way to do it to maximize their laziness” or something along those lines

There are tons of smart people that would, and few that do think what i do is stupid, and that i am stupid, because what i do is hard, but i just like doing it in general, i am well aware of all the problems that may arise at any point, and i like problem solving in it.
There will always be more problems after another.

Funny enough that's how it was with 40k with me. I wanted a highly customized army, I didn't know how hard that was. I ran into problems and I solved them.

It's just 9-10 problems and months of little progress are what convinced me to stop.

Ah, so many of my problems in life stem from me being too smart. I should have slacked off more in school.
