Was almost quitting league but now I'm determined to spread my toxicity on high elo, thanks riot August.

I remember this study, it was done on Halo 3 players. It was actually pretty funny considering how much more toxic those OG lobbies used to be compared to Leagues current lobbies.

You got it flipped. It's not that low elo men are more likely to be toxic. It's that toxic players perform worse. Toxicity is a factor in lowering your elo. Become less toxic and you'll climb higher.

Tbf high elo players don't encounter women in the first place

The problem with these kinds of studies is that they tend to have false correlations (not saying this particular study is but in general). You can easily find correlations between things you think are related and then it turns out there are completely separate factors at play. A big one in this case is the presence of women in high elo play. Simply put, there might simply be just way less opportunity to BE sexist in higher elo brackets because there simply isn’t a population to be sexist towards. Therefore there would be a false correlation because it isn’t actually accounting for such factors. I need to look at the actual study more myself but a lot of psychological research when it comes to video games tends to be rather messy due to the usual inexperience of the people involved in the facilitation of the study.

Simply put, it’s really easy to take correlation as causation without looking at the outside factors as to why things can correlate with each other, especially in cases where the correlation happens to be pure coincidence and the 2 subjects have little to no relation at all (this doesn’t apply to this study but it’s just important to keep it in mind generally).

In a way it makes sense though specially in an environement like soloq where having a good mastery over your own emotions is basically required to climb.

And people who are very abusive towards their significant others tend to be really bad at that. Coupled with a tendency for impulsivity.

I'd imagine there's a similar correlation with elo and proficiency in English on the EUW server too seeing as I stopped coming across french/Turkish typers every other game once I hit diamond+ MMR

I mean aren’t there like little to none women in high elo?

If that’s the case the higher elo players don’t even have the opportunity to be sexist

Yeah, so no source of course, just trust me bro from august here. But also it's a flawed study, because those people are also more likely to treat men with more toxicity as well.

Women literally have nothing to do with it.

This is super old news. Every toxic trait correlates with some insufficiency. You can see it first hand playing any moba. 9 times out of 10, the person being abusive is playingh terribly. A lot of players use their first death time in the fountain to type their first rage message.

Makes sense, when I'm playing CoD with a group including female friends of mine, and the enemy team uses the hysterical, never before heard lines like: "Make me a sandwich." or "Did you turn your console on instead of the dishwasher?" etc. they usually weren't very good at the game, and when they lost to us it created a negative feedback loop where they feel like they had to be more toxic, and use even less creative insults.

Think they did a similar study on Riot employees

That's because high elo men don't even get women to begin with, they're too busy playing the game to obtain and maintain their high elo

wojak

could be that low elo players don’t really care about online females while high elo needs the e love

Dont get me wrong but whats the % of woman on high elo (or female nicks) cuz prob 70% high elo player i found is racist or homophobic (they also like to call other ppl "poor" for some reason". it would be nice to see the metrics of this study
