Extreme Minimalists Living Full-Time in a Pickup Truck Camper

MAK & Owen are a couple of super talented designers who are currently living in the camper shell of a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. They're minimalist adventurers who love the freedom that vehicle-dwelling provides, and they're in their 3rd year of life on the road.

The Tacoma is their 3rd home on wheels, preceded by a Westfalia and a Toyota Sunrader; and soon to be replaced with a truck camper that they hope will be "the one!"

We met these two amazing people around the campfire at Go-Van's El Campo meet up in Quebec City, 2018 and we couldn't get enough of their enthusiasm and their stories from the road. Definitely give them a follow to keep up with their travels across Canada and the US:

MAK is a freelance graphic designer, and Owen does freelance motion graphics. You can check out their super inspiring & original work here & here:

Keep an eye out on the Go-Van website to find out about El Campo meet ups in 2019!

Thanks for watching!

I did this exact same thing about 35 years ago. Took a year off with my girlfriend and traveled all over the USA, parts of Canada & Mexico. Traveled through all the states except Alaska, Hawaii and N. Dakota. My setup was very similar to this one. Had a Toyota 4X4 regular cab with a camper shell. We weren't working though, just tourists! It was the best year of my life, I'm now 65! This brought back so many memories. They are exactly correct about the nice people you run into at these places you visit. Was with my girlfriend 7/24/365! We actually got a long well for the whole trip. I also did this several times solo & not solo for several months previous to my year trip. If you aren't encumbered and adventurous do this!

When she spoke about the mayor being so welcoming to them on a bad day I started tearing up!!! I have found the same hospitality from people time and again living on the road and in a Skoolie.

It’s really cool to see artists/designers making this work on the road in such limited space! Super inspiring!!

I love this! My boyfriend and I lived out of a Prius! Yes, a Prius with a dog too. Now we are getting ready to live in a Ford Transit van! We are super excited to get back on the road!

Wow...it's always so inspiring to see people who are so clear about what they want for themselves and their lives and aren't afraid to just go for it! Super inspired by this couple, their can do attitude and their clarity about that's really important in life and what doesn't really matter.

MAK and Owen are such bright and conscious people. It is always a huge treat to be able to interact in one manner or other with folks like these. All the best to all of you. And, as suggested somewhere below, perhaps they should consider creating videos for YT based on their adventures? I am positive that they would be very well received...

Trust me, to have a camper shell on a truck is great. I use my 2003 tacoma as a stealth camper when I travel. I bought a Hightop shell for my truck for 100.00 a few years back, and I can sit up if I need to. But I loved your video, and I plan to travel alot next year with resources I have on my truck, and wish yall the best.

In this era of cold hearted social media dominance, I really appreciate the kindness for others that you have both given and received. We can be many things to each other and we all need to be more of what you are embodying. Thank you and good travels.

Now that's living. They seem so happy and contented. Can you tell I'm envious...but I must keep moving toward my kind of happiness, I guess. Thanks for your videos, and please keep them coming.

I love how they are living in nothing but a truck, and he's still like: "Ugh. We have so much STUFF! Look at this Yakima box!"

I dont live out of truck but I vacation in it for 3 weeks in Colorado. As far as rain goes you can buy a 10 dollar tarp hook it over Yakima bars and stake it down to have a dry spot on tailgate. Also when it's cold you can drape tarp over front and rear doors then point dash heaters toward you and have a warm place to shower. I use a garden sprayer and I heat the water up on a stove. I bought a sink sprayer with a 3 foot hose then cut the other sprayer off attached the 2 together with niple and hose clamps that way I can set sprayer on ground and hold sprayer above head.

I’m so happy that my home province was such a lovely experience for you both! With the way everything has changed because of globalization, it’s nice to see that our famous Newfoundland hospitality is still alive and well!
