Dolphins are just so freaking cool! I think it was the ancient Greeks that believed if you were truly good and lived an honorable life, you became a Dolphin. I can see that. 😉. It's a draw between Dolphins and Hummingbirds if I had the choice to come back and an animal. Hummingbirds look like they have so much fun flying the way they do. I'm so jealous of them.😄

The intelligence the dolphin expressed by remembering where he saw a swim fin and then taking time out of his day to bring it in order to communicate with a human is staggering! This truly a display of next level intelligence.

I had a memorable and beautiful encounter with a female dolphin over 20 yrs ago and drove the 5000 klms back to see her again the next year...not thinking for one minute she would remember me, after all how many people would she 'meet' in a year. But...when I spoke and she heard my voice she immediately swam to where I was standing in the water and I was blown away. Then she circled and returned with her calf and nudged the calf towards me as if to say 'here's my calf, isn't she/he beautiful'. Have to admit this brought tears to my eyes, because not only did she remember me from the previous year, but then she nudged her baby very close as if to introduce us. Talk about being on a high!! Such special and wonderful animals with amazing intelligence.

Had a similar experience with a male dolphin in Egypt, Shab Sheer East reef. He had one of these thin plastic grocery bags on his flipper and placed it in front of us and swam away. We tried to grab it, but he was too fast to get it back. So the next time he placed it before us, I dashed to the bag and grabt it. When he came back looking perplex, I took out my octopus stage, filled the bag with air and let it shoot up to the surface. He chased it, got it back on his flipper and took it down again, placing it in front of me. We played this game until I reached 40 bar. So around 40 minutes. At the end I took the bag out of the game, since garbage doesn't belong there. Best dive ever. To remove my smile for the rest of the day, surgery would have been the only way to get it off. Since digital cameras where quite new at that time, I just have 3 only 2.1MP and slightly blurred pictures of this adventure.🥰🐬

My father deeply loved dolphins. They vacationed on the gulf twice a year for 40+ years. He got to know the dolphins well. In that time, they grew to trust him and introduce their young to him each spring as they taught them to fish the shoreline. I wonder if they miss him as much as I do.

I’m blown away by this. It’s the kind of interaction I’ve dreamt of in my own diving but never actually had. The fact that he saw his friend take off his fin, then realized he knew where another one was and brought it to him is just incredible. There’s genuine reasoning going on here. He’s displaying something like care for another. ‘Here, I thought you might need this.’
