Did you know dolphins grab a puffer fish and basically smoke it get high and pass it around until the puffer fish escapes.

Juvenile Dolphins have also been observed getting high my gently gnawing on pufferfish, getting it to release a minute amount of its poison. They tend to do this socially, passing the pufferfish from one to the other. They’re literally like teens with a joint but underwater where the best option for a high is a deadly poisonous fish.

A couple of years ago I was along the harbor shore at low tide and I found a baby dolphin trapped in a tide pool and saw what I presumed to be the mother about 100 feet away near the channel and the mother was obviously panicking. The baby wasn't that big and was obviously in distress. As it happened there was a dolphin rescue facility about a mile away but the baby didn't look injured just a bit dehydrated. So I picked up the baby and carried it through the mud and seaweed until I got to about waist deep in the water and was about 20 feet from the mother when I set the baby down in the water and it swam right up to its mother who seemed very excited and happy to get her baby back. A couple of weeks later I was in the same spot looking for seashells when I heard the familiar sound of dolphins whistling and looked up and there was mother and baby about fifty feet away in the water swimming around. It seems they recognized me as they swam as close to me as they could get without beaching themselves. I walked out to say hello and they swam in circles until I got in waist deep and the baby swam right up to me while the mother watched. Then I left. On three more occasions months apart we met like that in various locations along the harbor shore. the last time I saw the baby was about 6 months ago. Only he's not such a baby any more.
