have you ever seen the famous video of the german leopard tank driving with a beer and not spilling a single drop? This is because of the Gun Stabilisation within the tank. We will go into just how that works and how the tank is able to keep a target in its sights while moving over the roughest of terrain in today's video!

I really didn't expect much from a channel with 150 subs but the quality of this video is insane!

I, as a Tanker myself, am very interested in the tec that allows us to do our job and since I only need to know to fight and survive in a tank I rarely get a chance to see the inner workings of the tank itself. I don't know how Gun Stabilization technology has changed in the last 70 odd years but just knowing its most basic form works is amazing!
Keep up the good work you make very high quality videos with very good engagement! Love to see more!

the Soviet T-55 was also one of the first tank in the world with a stabilized gun, around the same time the British Centurion Mk.3 came around the 1950's

followed by the American M60 tank shortly after (in the 1960's)

The German Leopard 1(which is often claimed as one of the best ealy Cold War era tank) didn't even have a stabilized gun until the late 70's so it came rather late to the party...

Also interesting to note is that the British Chieftain tank was also the first tank with a Laser Range finder in the 1970's, followed by the Soviet T-64B, T-72A, T-55M, T-62M and American M60A3.

Early ww2 japanese tanks and shermand already had stabilizers, so the centurion just has a modernized version since the stabilizer works on high speeds too

Great video, man. Very interesting tech. It makes you wonder, though:who thought of this?

very good articulation, however, I have to admit that a graphic corresponding to the words
would've been a tremendous aid (and is the kind of thing that gets you subscribers IMO)

Did the shermans use the same type of stabilizer?

UK rest of old accomplishments though, how many tanks did they produce in the last 20 years? 20, 25?

How good is modern gun stabilization?

Everyone knows how gyros move the servos, that alone isnt exactly rocket science.
What is rocket science, is how such a massive turret is able to make such minute and accurate movements that stabilize the turret like that.

If you ever tried to use regular every day servos to make a gimbal, you would realize just how futile it is. You need bldc motors and a FOC driver.

Many cold war tanks have stabalizers that dont work past like 15 mph. This applies to all modern Russian tanks except for t14 as well so this is why they perform so poorly
