Tess of the D'Urbervilles (1998) | Tess and Alec - 'Laura'

A music video for the 1998 version of Tess of the D'Urbervilles. I've tried to show the uncomfortable gap between Alec's idea of Tess (upon encountering her again after two years) and the reality of the misfortunes brought upon her by his obsession.

This was the first version of Tess that I ever saw, so I find it impossible to imagine anyone else as Tess and Alec. Tess is played by Justine Waddell and Alec is played by Jason Flemyng.

Song: 'Laura' from an album called Back to the Movies - Edition 1945-1970 Volume 1. Unknown Artist. The song is originally from the 1944 movie Laura.

Well, you should also watch Tess (1979). I think Nastassja Kinski is the actual most beautiful Tess I've ever seen (But Justine Waddell is beautiful too!).

The 1998 version is my favorite because Tess is very believeable in catching both Angel and Alec's eye. The earlier version disturbed me a little because the actress who played Tess looked too young, like a minor. In contrast, the 2008 version wasn't as believeable because the actress didn't look attractive enough to be able to attract both suitors.
