Meteor Man must be Gandalf, the way they made him say “when in doubt, always follow your nose”, which is a direct reference. They’ve changed so much, they’ve probably just changed the time of his arrival. I think that the harfoot taking care of him and how close he gets with them, is a reason for the love he has for the hobbits later on.

After I finish these episodes, I always look forward to your breakdowns. It's like a part 2 of the episode. Thanks a lot

When the part of the forge exploded it melted one of their tools into it much in the same way the skeleton was melted into the wall In the northern stronghold they found early in the season. I thought that was a pretty big indication that Sauron had been trying to figure out how to make the rings for a long time.

All the rings were made by the Elves for the Elves. Originally the only separation was between the Three and the lesser 16. The 16 lesser Elf Rings of Power were forged over 300 years with Annatar (Lord of Gifts) assisting Celebrimbor and the Elven-Smiths. Celebrimbor and his people grew suspicious of Annatar, and given the opportunity once Annatar left the city they crafted the Three Great Rings by themselves for a total of 19 rings. Of course Annatar was Sauron and he was also going off to forge his own ring to highjack the others. With the One Ring the grand total was finally 20.When Sauron's plan to mind-control the Elves failed he launched a genocidal war on Eregion to steal the Rings, but Celebrimbor was able to get the Three out in time. Sauron captured the lesser 16 when he conquered the city, however he realized the Rings weren't going to work on the Elves anymore so he started passing them out to the Dwarves and Humans. The famous poem was actually written many centuries after these events, basically describing the state at the time, but would be a source of confusion for later generations on the order of events, which would manifest with the idea that the Rings were made for other races besides the Elves.

The Rings of Power project was initially conceived to recreate the bliss, purity, and timelessness of Valinor upon Earth, so the Elves could preserve their civilization in this mortal world of decay. Morgoth's taint and corruption essentially made the world toxic to immortal beings in the long-term, leaving only the Blessed Realm of the Valar as a save pocket to live out the life of the universe, but Celebrimbor and his Elven-smiths weren't going to give up so quickly... which was exactly the gap in the armor Sauron was looking for to get some leverage on corrupting the Elves (and everyone else by default).

I like how Galandriel may have convinced Sauron to get back on the horse and try and conquer the world again. Now she'll wonder if she just never jumped off that boat maybe Sauron would have gone on to just sit around and make arts and crafts for the rest of eternity.

The reason Galadriel was alarmed when Celebrimbor spoke of "a power not of the flesh but over flesh" and utilising "the unseen world" was because that was _exactly_ what Adar had said to her shortly before Mt Doom erupted.

I did Originally think the stranger was a blue wizard,
but its makes more sense for him to be gandalf,
because the first people he meets are Harfoots (Ancestors of Hobbits),
which would explain gandalfs fondness of Hobbits,
also how the Hobbits know him so well is because he comes back to visit so often,
probably because he initially comes back with Nori,
then just continues to come back,
the stranger also says a line to Nori what gandalf said in one of the films,
"always follow your nose",
it would be cool to see a blue wizard,
but I think its easier for the show writers to just bring in a beloved character early

The Stranger used the same line that Gandalf used in The Fellowship of The Ring extended edition. "Whenever you don´t know where to go, you can always follow your nose."
Also I think Theo will work his way into being the Witch-king and Sauron's ally among the Southlands, helping him to kill Adar.

Its kinda eerie where Sauron's eye can be visibly seen from the time Elrond dropped the Mithril in the molten gold and silver mix from Valinor.

I don’t think they would’ve slammed us over the head with Gandalf Easter eggs for a blue wizard. For a moment, I thought he might be Saruman. But when he talked about sensing the way based on the smell, I knew it was Gandalf because of what he said in Moria.

I like how the raft looked like Sauron’s future helm from the beginning and I didn’t catch it until tonight’s episode.

Stranger = Gandalf
1. He's a Maiar and can't die but be reborn.
2. He's a servant of the secret fire
3. He eventually wears ring Flame of Abor
4. Fire doesn't harm him
5. He whispers to fireflies like the moths
6. He turns the evil ladies into butterflies (or moths that he speaks to in future?)
7. Says "follow your nose"
8. Tells Galadriel in Hobbit movie when she asked "Why the Halfling?"....
"I don't know. Saruman believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check. But that is not what I have found. I've found it is the small things, everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keeps the darkness at bay. Simple acts of kindness and love. Why Bilbo Baggins? Perhaps it is because I am afraid... and he gives me courage"
9. If not Gandalf, what other wizard has such fondness of the halflings? This is obviously showing how Gandalf's love for Hobbits began.

My favorite is the chain leading toward celebrimbor's back. What beautiful symbolism to show how he is essentially a servant to the shadow by his actions.

I would've preferred him to be a blue wizard and for the line to be something like "I remember someone once telling me 'if in doubt, always follow your nose' ". But I won't lose sleep if it's an early version of Gandalf, and overall I loved the episode, and the whole show in general despite its few flaws.

I really like the idea of The Stranger being one of the Blue Wizards, because Tolkien published very little concrete about them, and his ideas changed a lot over time whenever he talked about them privately in letters and such, so there's a lot of room for expanding the narrative, without conflicting with canon. Originally Tolkien suggested they failed in whatever their mission was, but later in life reconsidered that they were actually critical to disrupting Sauron's will and domination over the more distant lands.

We do know one Blue Wizard's Maiarin name was Alatar, and he was affiliated with Oromë. I wonder if they're using the other though, who's even more of a blank slate. (As Charlie sort of touches on, all the Maiar are aligned with / in service of one of the Valar – Sauron/Mairon with Aulë, Gandalf/Olórin with Manwë, Radagast/Aiwendil with Yavanna, Saruman/Curumo also with Aulë.) The references around The Stranger to the butterfly constellation, stars, the sun and moon, etc., might be to imply that he's affiliated with Varda, which would be cool.

I always wondered, if you used to be a bad guy and you lose your memories, and you made good new memories, after you remember your bad memories do you go back to being evil or do you stay good? Which take precedence since your mind after losing your memories is imprintable and a blank slate. You're essentially learning what good and bad mean.

The red ring is NARYA, not Narnya. It is not from Narnia. Narya - Nenya - Vilya. Narya is the ring associated with fire; its stone is a ruby. When Gandalf wore Narya it was invisible on his hand. No one except for Galadriel and Elrond knew he had it. This is why I assumed Meteor Man was Gandalf, because he arrived in flames. If he does turn out to be one of the two Blue Wizards, I hope the second one turns up next season. The two Blue Istari were friends back in Valinor.
