COLOMBIAN STREET FOOD in Bogotá 'Mattress Breaker Soup' + Robbed in Colombia Story...

This street food tour in Colombia ended up not being how I expected... Other than the scary experience we had in Bogotá we loved everything about Colombia. The fresh flavours, rich history and friendly people drown out any negativity we felt during our stay in Colombia.

In this episode we visited the Perseverance Market in La Perseverancia, a working-class neighbourhood situated on the steep slops of Bogotá. Colombia goes hard on the soup game and at the market we tasted 2 : the coconut milk based soup/aphrodisiac : "the mattress breaker" as well as a hearty 3 meat monster of a stew. After a quick stop at the Botero Museum we experimented with Colombian coffee before things took a turn for the worse.

When I visited Bogota for a few months I also had my phone stolen. And I also ran after the guy, along with a group of locals who didn’t know me at all. He tried to pretend like he didn’t have it but one of the locals almost beat the thief up, demanding he return it, and I did get my phone back…. Bogotá is like that. But like you said, most Colombians are remarkably friendly and chatty people. :) I hope you got to go to Montserrat eventually, it’s gorgeous!

The first soup is special and so is the name! The second soup is rich in content, I like it!
I also like the style of that museum, those lovely paintings make people feel better!
It was the first time I saw the cooking method of the first coffee. I believe that coffee will be very rich and delicious!
I don't know if you are right to go after the thief, but I think you are heroic, this is a story that can be told for a lifetime.

Bogota, like any other big city, has its crime. I lived there for almost 4 years and during that time I had a few encounters with some unsavory people. But there are a lot more friendly and beautiful people than bad. I even married a beautiful woman from Bogota. Hopefully you do get to go up to Monserrate, it has a great view of the city. I'm from the UK and been living here for 20 I've been mugged too and it so sad that such a lovely country has to live like this on a daily basis. I'm so happy you came out ok after this ordeal. It's very dangerous to do what you did... But sometimes it's our natural response. You were lucky, not many people that do this are. I hope you had a great rest of trip but you do have to keep your guard up in Bogotá. Thank you for sharing such a terrible experience. Wishing you the best.
