Thank you for your helpful explanation! I teach Stats and Calc BC. Using series notation in your proof helped me better understand this formula. I came across your video while watching another video on why E(X)=1/p for geometric distributions. It's nice to understand how to prove the specific formulas for E(X) and Var(X) from the generic ones for random variables. I'm new to teaching Stats, so I like understanding the "why."
