I’m happy for this guy & his youtube presence!
That said, I’ve now watched (and paused) this video dozens of times in a row and still haven’t heard one word he said!!!

I'm old. Grew up surfing before even leashes were around. How many times surfing North side of Oahu and neighbor islands did I get held down and disoriented which way was up? Running out of air, losing track of whenn next wave would break, can't see anything but bubbles, my hand hits the bottomand I realize I am swimming parallel to the bottom. Push off the bottom, lungs screaming for air, hoping not to surface in the impact zone. Which sometimes happened. Ask any surfer who has ridden medium size waves or larger. Those times you almost die.
Today's riders, today's boards and equipment: Surfing has never been more high performance!

"You don't always come up right away" ... my anxiety levels just shot up 😬

“She doesn’t always come up all the way, but we definitely saw a lot”. At least that’s what’s I heard.

Don't forget to mention your elders who did all this without inflation vests or rescues. 😊

Do you ever pull more than 1 tab at a time ? Or is the purpose of 4 so you don’t have to come back in and replace them every time?

Mad respect to young men and women who charge the most gnarly surf with ease. You all amaze me.

Cool info and explanation, but….
am I the only one wondering this- she brings out the wet flotation vest, he grabs it and doesn’t even thank her!
Maybe that makes me old school (which I am), but humility and thankfulness take people a long way💯🤙

After surviving a few multi-wave hold-unders on huge days, I would have loved to have had one of those vests.

love the gear! worst part of being inflated is the next 3 waves about to hit you on the head and you cant swim down to quick! good luck out there, be safe!

The inflatable vest creates buoyancy, I get it. My method, back 30 yrs ago, when I surfed, was that you just hold onto your board when you get caught inside. Try not to ditch your board. The wave might slam you and roll you and drag you downward into the depths, but if you're still holding that surfboard, with arms wrapped around it like you're hugging it, then the board will float back to the surface. The surfboard is a bouyant object. So you don't really need a vest. Anyways I'm just happy I'm alive and writing this right now.
