What Happened To The Unknown Passengers On The Titanic?

In April 1912, 14 people from the parish of Addergoole in County Mayo, Ireland, set sail for America aboard the RMS Titanic, seeking better lives. The villagers of Addergoole held "American wakes" for the emigrants, symbolic ceremonies marking the departure and likely permanent separation from their families. When the Titanic struck an iceberg, the Addergoole 14 were initially told to stay calm and remain in steerage, but eventually faced chaos and difficulty accessing lifeboats due to class barriers. The group was notably organized; however, 11 of the 14 passengers from Addergoole did not survive.

One of my family members left from Ireland on the Titanic as a teenager. She was with 2 of her friends and were very poor. They didn’t make it. But I mention her when I can, so never forgotten. Rip Katherine Hargadon

My Irish Grandmother emigrated 2 years before the Titanic sailed. She traveled 3rd class-all by herself but she had the name and address of her maternal uncle (a requirement for most women traveling alone). She lived to 103 years old and never returned to Ireland.

My great aunt who would be 137 years old now, barely missed being on board the Titanic. She married a man from Scotland where they resided. She had bought a ticket to board the Titanic so she could come home to the US for a visit with her family. Her husband became ill and she stayed to be with him.

This is a whole new perspective on the tragedy. I love that the families are preserving their stories for generations to come.

So sad, I have been researching Titanic for the last 35 years of my life and while I've yearned to learn more about the ship, you tend to lose sight of the people whose lives were affected by this tragedy. It wasn't until I saw a demonstration of 1500 people who had gathered in a city square to show just what 1500 people looked like gathered together that I realized just what the loss was like. Then you have to think about how many families were affected, entire families wiped out, so many people from so many different towns and countries who were never seen again because they drowned in the North Atlantic that fateful night of April 14th-15th, 1912. I have said it time and time again, but God bless the victims of and the families affected by the sinking of Titanic.

This was the best experience in terms of understanding what the actual passengers went through the night the Titanic sank . Well done but respectful at the same time.

A very nice reenactment. And thank God for the young women who survived to tell their stories...only 3 from a group of 14 from Ireland.Thank you for presenting this very poignant story from Titanic passengers who were not famous or millionaires.

Such a great yet tragic story. This gave me a lot of realizations about life, what an honor to live life, be alive, and be free. My heart goes to all the 14 of them, their relatives & all of those who perished in the titanic.

That was by far one of the best stories I've ever heard about the Titanic survivors and those who were lost. Thank you so much for sharing about your families, and please accept our sympathies for your losses.❤

Can you imagine being told to sit still and stay calm and await further instructions… listening and following directions just to find out it’s too late and you don’t have a chance at getting on a boat..

Fascinating video telling the back stories of some of the passengers. It’s the first such video I’ve seen. These stories needed to be told. It was very interesting to hear their descendants talk about their lives after being rescued. Most of them didn’t ever want to talk about the Titanic. Many of their descendants got to know the survivors. I’m astonished at the way they were able to put the tragedy behind them and make a life for themselves in America. The remembrance ceremony by the people of Addergoole especially the ringing of the bell brought tears to my eyes.

Heartbreaking story, especially because of the impossibly difficult situation in Ireland.

My mother was Irish, and her grandmother came over on a Schooner across the prairie. But my mother's mother talked about the sinking of the Titanic. She was a preteen at the time, and it affected the whole world when it happened. It was a definite horrible disaster of that time.😢😢😢😢😢
