First Contact - Enterprise-D Intro (Venture Variant)

While I'm a complete fan of the Sovereign Class, I always wondered what a 'what if' scenario would give if the Enterprise-D was not destroyed at Veridian III in "Generations" and received for the next movie, "First Contact", an upgrade/refit to become like the U.S.S. Venture in DS9's "The Way of the Warrior".

The Enterprise D looked good in Generations - I even loved the bridge alterations. She was totally worthy of the big screen. I love the Sovereign, she's gorgeous, but the Enterprise D was taken from us too soon.

I love this so, so much. The Enterprise D should've been destroyed by the Borg, TNG's ultimate enemy, and not some POS bird of prey. She deserved to be on the big screen for longer

I always thought Picard's refusal to blow up the Enterprise-E in First Contact would've hit so much harder with the audience if it had been the Enterprise-D. We all would've been in Picard's shoes, wanting every last crewmen to fight tooth and nail to save the ship we'd spent 7 seasons and countless adventures with. Watching the D slowly fall to the Borg would've been gut-wrenching for TNG fans and made us more understanding of Picard's defiance. But as is, it feels more like Picard just doesn't want to lose his new toy. They haven't served aboard the E for even a full year, and we as the audience first met this ship a few hours ago, so I don't really know why the movie treats all of us like we have a deep bond/connection with it. Crusher sums up our attachment to the E best when she says, "Well, I guess they'll build another one." That's the appropriate response. As slick as the Sovereign design is, the D would've helped bolster elements of the narrative.

First Contact would have been more terrifying if it had taken place aboard the D, we knew that ship all to well and seeing it overrun by the Borg would have been the ultimate nightmare.

The Enterprise D will always be my favorite. She's simply beautiful!

I know when people saw the Enterprise E everyone was shocked at how beautiful it was but, honestly in all my years of watching Star Trek, including Discovery nothing EVER beats a Galaxy Class or the feels of seeing it in HD. The series finale of ST:Enterprise was amazing seeing the Big D in full HD 4K. It was truly amazing it brought back so many memories as a kid. If I had a choice as a Captain the Galaxy Class would be my ship, (which it was for years in Star Trek Online). Plus it would be fitting for the D to finish off the Borg because it started the war with them years prior. I feel the D was robbed of seeing one of her missions to the end, taking down the Borg, permanently.

I have to say...considering how long ago TNG came out and how good the Enterprise D looked at that time, I'm disappointed in some of the other starship designs since then. There was a kind of majesty to the design of Enterprise D that hasn't really been duplicated since. Even today, I think it still holds up as one of the most beautiful ships out there.

Originally the E was actually going to be another Galaxy Class like the Enterprise A but they instead gave us this beauty.

This is flipping awesome! Pity they trashed the Big D in Star Trek VII. Magnificent ship, especially on the big screen

Amazing, got the lighting and nebula down. Never been a fan of the Sovereign class. Would love to see the D come in and rescue the Defiant.
