'You don't touch archaeology, not even with cornflour.' This text from Emma has James O'Brien in awe at how articulately it gets across the point that Just Stop Oil protests are 'annoying the exact population most minded to support their cause.' Özen @Iridescent1985, 'All those that have come out of the woodwork professing their love for Stonehenge & horror at it bring sprayed with wash away powder mind that exhaust fumes from the motorway built next to it are seeping into the pores of the linchen on the walls. Or they not bothered about that?' Professor Moriarty @Profess98707155, 'Napoleon neither fired on the Pyramids nor the Sphinx, instead he led one of the largest scientific expeditions (alongside the military campaign) to Egypt. He founded the Institute of Egypt & helped give us Egyptology (a French soldier rediscovered the Rosetta stone).'

The real vandalism is not being able to walk amongst the stones and having to pay to walk around the outside.

'What exactly has gone wrong here?' ... The utter exasperation from being unable to change the minds of those blinkered by greed has caused a possible overstepping of the mark by JSO. In their defence, drought and floods and fires will be doing far more damage to beloved monuments soon. The urgency of our situation, the imminence of disaster, is grasped by only a few.

I was there the next day for solstice and it had all completely gone. Some people just want to be outraged at something unfortunately

The real problem is that the vast majority of people are too selfish, stupid or corrupt to see that JSO are in the absolute right here. What is a few discolored stones compared to the damage being caused daily by big corporations and greed

I have sympathy for JSO, but this was an act of cultural vandalism. It has done nothing to further the cause and has done far more damage to them than benefit. It reminds me of when animal rights activists released mink from a fur farm into the environment thinking this was a benevolent act, when in fact it has resulted in species already under threat being further endangered. Where is the thinking? Where is the insight? Who thought this was a good idea?

It's like a lot of "extreme" groups. To be seen as a player in the group, you need to be more extreme than the average so stupid ideas may come from a need for recognition within the group. Having the same idea as all the others is not attention getting enough for some.
I'm not saying the environmental ideas of JSO are extreme, just that their methods don't seem to be put through a filter.

I'm an environmentalist and I LOVE ancient sites. They've been there for thousands of years and a little bit of paint isn't going to hurt them.
