I will always remember the Foligno acquisition as a bad deal for the Leafs. The Leafs gave up too much for a player who had no loyalty for the Leafs and bolted to a rival team at the first opportunity. I liked Foligno as a player, but he was not a useful or loyal player.

These comments aren't significant - and they're even less so on the day that 91's C gets removed.

Dude got more in Beantown than he would have in Toronto and that arguably increased the odds of a cup. It flopped and that happens.

If you watched the Amazon doc, you know how bad he felt. His back seized. What can you do. That was a terrific signing. It just didn't pan out. That's not Nick's fault, either. They pissed away a golden opportunity in that North division because they're soft. Dumb mistakes cost 'em, too. Leafs be leafin.

He chose Boston because of the better health care system for his daughter

Foligno trade was a huge huge L for Leafs as they gave up too much for Foligno who is overrated and didn’t do anything. Huge Dubas typical L

Dubas really messed up the futures with vastly overpaying this guy. It shows Shanahan/Dubas had no idea how to assess their team or potential players. It's okay though, as it looks like they are running things back to eternity. What a pity

If the Leafs really wanted him they would have offered him what Boston gave him. Sadly the Leafs tie up most of their cap space in their core four and then try to full the rest of the roster with stop gap measures or players past their prime. When the playoffs hit the core fore disappear and its over quickly. Now once again we are going to run it back. What a clown show.

Honestly I think Foligno was already injured when he came to Toronto. It just got worse as he tried to play through it!

Our Leafs need to target & invest in the highest talent, (and steer from centimental choices)
Especially a #1 Defenceman !

People have forgotten, he forced Corey Perry to atone for the hit on Tavares by fighting him. He also signed in Boston because his child who was very sick was going to be treated in Boston hospital. He did it for family.

I was very happy when Nick Foligno was acquired from Columbus at the trade deadline, because he was exactly the type of player the team needed. The Leafs did pay a great deal for Foligno, and if he were healthy in the playoffs I would have been fine with the deal. But him being injured and not contributing to their run signifcantly soured me on Dubas. I wonder to this day if Foligno was fully healthy or was dealing with injury issues that were glossed over to enable the trade. He seemed to get injured awfully easily when Toronto got him, and that seemed suspicious to me. Injuries do happen but I seem to remember Foligno being out with injuries for much of that season in Columbus.

Dubas had no issue with trading away 1st and 2nd round picks to go "all in" for the current year, and we're paying the price for that lack of long-term team building vision now. The only thing of note I remember Foligno doing during that run was fighting Corey Perry for taking out Tavares, and that was an accident so that fight shouldn't have happened.

He played in the playoff's for the Leafs he got into a fight with Corry Perry after putting JT out with the run by knee to his head.

Leafs signed Foligno because they had done so poorly versus Columbus in 2020. They overpaid him. They over pay everyone.
How is this any different?
He played 4 playoff games. Leafs didnt want to resign him cause they felt he was done as a player.
He only had 13 points in 64 games the next year. So they were right. He signed where he got paid the most.
Why is this so mysterious?

Foligno was a bust for the Leafs. Same with Lindros & few others

U find it puzzling why he brought it up? You ever had conversations with people and you talk about things in the past. Thats what that was, nothing more.

Foligno probably was offered a bigger salary from Boston than what Toronto was offering. Careers are short and players have to maximize their earnings.
Foligno, O'Reilly, Reeves are all bandages to the Leafs' toughness issue. Berube has a whole year to make every member of the team play hard physical hockey. Being tough is not beating up people in a fight but always competing for the puck, sticking up for each other and playing like it is your last game. Injecting a player doesn't create toughness.

The only player TML signed that was worse then Foligno was Marleau!
Foligno was overpaid, then completely sucked and then just walked away like a giant POS!
