Former Dodge salesman/inventory. Can confirm. They take a low rate loan from a bank, then add their own interest on top of it. So while you're paying the dealership, they're paying the loan, and they pocket the middle man money.

A salesman's biggest dream, and a finance manager's worst nightmare, is when you come in pre approved from your own bank for whatever x amount they approve you for. Had a guy come in once with PAP from his credit union. 3.25% was the interest they gave him.

As someone who worked in a dealership body shop as an auto body tech. I can tell you the only way to get a good deal is to go to the dealership at the end of the month. Preferably with in the last 3 days of the month. Don’t be afraid to walk away, drag them down as far as you can, stay there for 2 hours haggling. Then walk out, wait for the phone call the next day.
